Around SBN: Lakers Should Trade Andrew Bynum So He Doesn't Go To Waste

Russell to fall one game short

of losing 300 games in his 3 seasons with the Pirates. Dejan Kovacevic is reporting that internal sources have indicated that John Russell will not be retained as Pirates manager after the season. Neal Huntington is expected to be retained.

Pirates likely to oust Russell

A loss today would give Russell a 186-299 record in his 3 seasons with the Pirates... a .384 winning percentage.

Personally, I feel the Pirates need to go outside the organization for JR's replacement. Someone that has had success (although not necessarily at the major league level) for a significant period in a winning organization. Losing begets losing. We need a manager that knows how to win, and will not settle for anything less. And once that manager is hired...the front office needs to let that manager do his job, instead of the front office trying to run the team on the field as has obviously been the case for at least parts of this season.

Soooo

does anyone want Graddy Little at manager, Leo Mazzone as pitching coach and Barry Bonds as the hitting coach. Id certainly buy into that staff.

I think Bonds would make a great hitting coach, if he were interested.

There are all kinds of stories about him reading pitches from the bench and casually identifying hitters’ flaws.

Temperment is the question, of course. But you can be a pretty good ML coach without being the kind of guy you’d want to get a beer with. Look at Johnny Sain, for example, or Ted Williams.

well

i was playing off the curse that we have since bonds left, and for some reason i just like little. mazzone should be a consideration though

Bonds...

didn’t necessarily bond with his teammates when he played. How is he going to form a bond with those he will be working to improve?

lol

its just the curse of bonds, since the last time he was on the team was the last time we had a winning season, im just trying to add some creative, fun thinking….

It's a good day to be a Pirate

You don't necessarily need to bond with guys...

…to have useful knowledge to offer.

It might or might not work, but it’s an interesting thought. Bonds knows an awful lot about swing mechanics and pitching sequences.
