Ok, you caught me, I really don't have a clue who the Pirates should sign to make a complete and competitive team. You see, I am not a highly paid, experienced baseball executive who knows the ins and outs of MLB. Just a fan who runs his own Fantasy Baseball team. That was not too difficult to write. Some here need to come out and admit the same. I do have an opinion, and that is we will not have enough good players to compete next year for the playoffs. They following year is possible, but I still doubt it. After that, we start losing some of the "good" players to free agency and the cycle of losing begins again.
I found an old book on Pittsburgh, and a team photo of the 79 Pirates. There were so many good players on that team. A mixture of young and old, platoon players, and specialists.
I counted 6 really good hitters on that club, and 4 very good pitchers, and two good pitchers.
That's 12 high end players. Some were past their prime, like Stargell. Parker was a superstar in his prime.
Sanguillen, Lacy, Easler and Millner were all excellent role players. You can't make a team from Minor League players exclusively. It will take some veterans that will want actual money to play here. Something our owner won't part with.
