Brief mention in John Perrotto's On The Beat wrapup (subscriber) on Prospectus today:
"The Pirates would like to sign free-agent right-hander Jeremy Bonderman."
Seems plausible, as he's an experienced starter who eats innings and would likely sign for a reasonable cost, but he's also a low-strikeout, heavy-contact pitcher who just turned 28, had injury-shortened '08 and '09 seasons, and his ERA outside Comerica last year was 6.84 (with a 44-40 K/BB ratio). Maybe he wasn't fully healthy last year (though he did make 29 starts), but unless it's at a near-negligible cost, wouldn't this signing be the exact type of non-improvement over Duke that Charlie cautioned against in the Fix The Defense post?
