Apparently, the Pirates' losing streak could have ended last year, but they declined the help of an influential man, who, in June of 2010
"... offered his services to work with the Pittsburgh Pirates in hopes to end their losing streak. The Pirates did not take [him] up on his offer."
MLB Sports got into it, as well. From his twitter feed, dated 6 July 2010:
"Y did MLB Sports Network broadcast 11 times on Sat. [his] offer to break the Pirates losing streak ... "Tuesday, July 06, 2010 12:17:07 PM via web
Apparently, ESPN ran something about him - I must have missed it. From ESPN.com, July 11:
He can't be serious about his offer to help the Pittsburgh Pirates end a 17-straight -- and counting -- losing season streak. But you're wrong, he says.
"I'm not making this a sideshow thing," ... "I don't want cameras there. I want to meet privately with the team."
"It would be my joy to help turn around your organization. I await your response," [he] wrote in an e-mail to the Pirates
"I'm not doing this for the money. I don't need the money," he said. "I think I can make something happen."
From his twitter feed:
Espn.com story [on his] offer to the pirates re-confirms how blindsided team management has become. "What do they have to lose" says ESPN 4:14 PM Jul 23rd via web
He has a proven track record of success, and according to his website, is "nationally recognized in the United States," a "legendary figure," a "a training consultant," and "has received international recognition" for his work.
His twitter feed on October 4th:
Pirates Manager John Russell was fired 2day after their 18th consecutive losing season Sounds like I offered my help to deaf ears. 3:17 PM Oct 4th via web
On October 4th, he issued a press statement saying about the Bucs "that their losing streak will continue for their 19th, 20th, 21st, and 22nd season, unless more changes come about."
From the press release:
“I am reintroducing my offer to work with the Pittsburgh Pirates to end their losing streak, as I believe that their almost 2 decade disaster can be turned around.”
I feel we should petition the Pirate Organization to accept his offer - (1) What could it hurt? (1a) It could only help.(2) The Pirates shouldn't worry about the source of the help - after all, how much bigger of a laughingstock can we be, really? (3) If it can end the streak, I feel every avenue should be explored, no matter how unorthodox!!
Now, the question is, how do we convince BN, FC and NH to go for it?
