I have been reading almost every post on here for about a year and finally signed up. Here goes post # 1 for me!
I am a huge fan of what Neil Huntington has been doing since he took over. I have been a die-hard fan since I was 7 (last time the pirates made the playoffs) and they finally are moving in the correct direction for a small market time. I have been in favor of the previous years off-season free-agent signing but this year I have been a bit puzzled, I did not like the milledge dump (btw does anybody know if he got picked up or what his status is?), the overbay signing, the mass of crappy no value pitchers.
That being said i know there was rumors that the pirates were being signaled out by the league for its low major-league payroll (i did not believe them). is it possible that this was the case in retrospeck. It has seemed to me that the pirates have added payroll almost just to add payroll. It seems almost plausible now as most our signings do not seem to have a solid grasp on starting positions. What do you folks think?
