AAA Rule 5 picks
Anyone know anything about the two guys we picked up in the AAA portion of the Rule 5 draft. Obviously nothing to get too excited about, but hoping for a little upside maybe. We took Bradley Chalk and Travis Scott.
I found some stuff on Brad Chalk, an OF, who was with the SD Padres. He seems to have absolutely no power (2 HRs since he was drafted in 2007 in the second round). However, he does seem to have some speed and the ability to hit for average. His best season seems to have been in 2009 at A+. In 525 ABs, he hit .301 and had 33 SBs. Here is what the SD brass had to say when they drafted him in the second round of the 2007 draft: "Bradley Chalk (No. 87 overall in the second round). His game could be electric. Every year, we seem to ask ourselves, 'How do we get a legitimate leadoff hitter?' I don't know if he'll develop power, but in college (Clemson) he was an amazing singles, walks, on-base-percentage guy. He could play center field in the major leagues right now. Chalk reminds me of Steve Finley in every aspect except power." I know that we have two guys in the outfield right now who are potential lead-off type guys with mediocre power (ok, cutch has some power), but this guy seems like he has the potential to at least compete for lead-off at bats in a few years.
Again, all I know about Travis Scott is what I found in the past hour. He is a catcher who comes to us from the Angels. He doesn't seem like anything special. From what I read, he reminds me a little of David Ross. He'll never be a legit producer at the ML level, but his bat has some pop.
Anyway, I was hoping to get some insight on these guys.

neither are gonna be any good
Chalk will get some looks if there’s a need for someone to backup CF in a real real pinch. But I don’t see anything more than that.
Ditto Scott… he has negligible chance of ever seeing the big leagues
These guys
were not picked to help- the big league club - some guys are justed needed to fill minor league spots

True...
but it’s nice to have AAA filler with a hint of upside as opposed to aging veteran soldiers.
right
we’re filling the ML roster with those type of players

Didn't figure
they’d do us much good. Doing my usual optimism before the season starts, though haha.
Justin84: good dig-up on Chalk – interesting read.
