It occurred to me that there hasn't been a discussion of Russell (both currently and going forward) as a manager recently, at least that I can recall. It's sort of a non-issue at this point until the Pirates get their house in order, so perhaps that's why. But I thought it might be interesting to speculate.
I recall not being a huge fan of the hire originally, and sort of regarded it as business as usual rather than part of a shift in the way the organization was going to do business, etc.
Currently, it strikes me as one of the organizational moves I'm least excited about, but again until the Pirates have the players....
So do you guys think they regard Russell as a placeholder until they have the talent to contend? If so who might they bring in, or who would you like to see them eventually bring in? Or do you think they genuinely regard him as someone who's capable of managing the ball club going forward?
