Around SBN: Jim Irsay: We Can Make It Work With Peyton Manning

Anyone sticking up for Nutting should read this...

1)Bottom line.  14 years and counting of losing.  Worst ever in the 4 major professional sports.  You cannot deny that fact.  He is the man in charge. Only him.

2)It doesn't matter if you think lemieux would do a good job.  Nutting is a proven loser.  Anyone else is a potential loser. What is there to lose by changing ownership?  I find your defense of Nutting disturbing am personally concerned of other more important views that you may have in this world.

3)We can debate motivation, strategy, tactics, all you want.  Personally i think you would lose in a landslide. The man has never won, the prospects do not look good, and the promises he made around winning in the new PNC park never happened.  They were lies.

Keep lying to yourself. I will keep reading your posts.  If the Pirates winning wont make me smile your posts surely will.

you got your strongest point wrong- might want to check up that number of years in the “bottom line”.

there is, in fact, much to lose with a change in ownership- i expect since u read the other posts, you know already

which prospects do not look good?

Um ...

It’s been 14 years since the Nutting came aboard, right?

Not that I agree with the rest of that post. I was just wondering how Penguins fans liked the direction LeBurkle was taking the team in 2003-04. Too bad there’s not some magical time machine that could let us, with the touch of a few keystrokes, let us go back in time and read what people were saying back then.

Oh, wait … Look! I found this on the PensBlog:

The Pens combined record during that time [2001-06] was 100-178. Consider that during the previous four years, the team’s record was 157-113 and that the previous 11 years the Pens were in the playoffs, and you know why we consider it the Dark Ages.

Casual fans abandoned the team. Diehard fans were happy to see a scoreless first period. Running a blog would have been a lesson in Cynicism 101.

Blogging wasn’t even in the picture for anyone. If you didn’t do message boards, there was no online community.

Searching the internet, most people used a combo of Geocities/Tripod to get Pens news out there. By 2003, everyone killed themselves.

is it wrt Nutting?

my bad, then, on the 14 years… sorry!

by BurgherKing on Feb 8, 2010 11:27 AM EST up reply actions

Yep...

1996 was Nutting’s fault. It was his 5% of the team that lost all those games.

am personally concerned of other more important views that you may have in this world.

Well, I believe in the soul, the c—k, the p——y, the small of a woman’s back, the hanging curve ball, high fiber, good scotch, that the novels of Susan Sontag are self-indulgent, overrated crap. I believe Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone. I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing Astroturf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, soft, wet kisses that last three days…

Your shower shoes have fungus on them. You’ll never make it to the Bigs with fungus on your shower shoes. Think classy, you’ll be classy. If you win 20 in the show, you can let the fungus grow back and the press’ll think you’re “colorful.” Until you win 20 in the show, however, it means you are a slob.

I never thought I’d laugh at the losing streak, but I laughed pretty hard when I saw that point #1 didn’t even have the amount of years right.

And then I see that Nutting is a proven loser… can’t that be said about every owner that hasn’t won a World Series? Nutting has been in charge since 2007, he started the rebuild that year. The only thing that he has really proven is that he knows how you’re supposed to rebuild. Whether the rebuild works is still up for debate, but the Marlins rebuilt shortly after winning the 97 Series, and THEY WON AGAIN IN 2003. Rebuilding can definitely work.

Well, I was expecting an article saying something Nutting did in his past

but I get some dumb ass’s righteous opinion that has OBVIOUSLY never been said before.

Heh…I always take the bate in terms of troll posts, but I can never resist calling people dumb asses.

That was the best part, to me

The title of the post suggested that there was some other piece of information out there, or an angle that hadn’t been explored yet.

I think that the best part is that the poster’s name is an anagram for “Ninja, slice him.”

This has got to be the single greatest post to build support for the current administration.

Where do they come from?

Here’s my question: what changed about two or three months ago (it was not the end of the 17th losing season — it was WAY after that) that brought all these people out of the woodwork and over to places like BD and OnlyBucs? I’m just curious why the Nutting Ranters and NH Haters decided now was the time? I didn’t hear this much complaining in general back when DL was in charge and about to be fired…and he was MUCH more detrimental to the future (and then-present) of the Pirates than anyone.

by SpacePirate on Feb 7, 2010 12:38 PM EST reply actions

I think...

I think that it was around the time that there was the semi-riff with Dejan. If I remember right… and thats a big if… He might have linked BD when there was an posting on here written against him? I think it seemed like then there was a big flood of new posters.

by tsbulldawgs64 on Feb 7, 2010 12:53 PM EST up reply actions

You know who I think should buy the Pirates?

Michael Phelps. Think about it! He has won more gold medals than Lemieux and certainly more than Burkle! Even if you count the Stanley Cups that Lemieux won as both player and coach and stack those up against Phelps’ gold medals, Lemieux looks like a loser in comparison. Phelps has proven that he could definitely probably win more World Series than Nutting ever could! Phelps is a proven winner!

by MarkInDallas on Feb 7, 2010 12:56 PM EST reply actions

Oh wait...on the other hand...

I just thought of something that might invalidate this line of thinking that I so enthusiastically endorsed.

Tom Hicks proved himself a winner by bringing Dallas a Stanley Cup win, but he tried that same tactic in MLB, and failed. The Texas Rangers under his ownership have pretty much been losers and never developed the pitching needed to compete. They went to the playoffs but only won 1 game in 3 playoff series. He gave Alex Rodriguez a huge free agent contract, but that actually hampered the efforts to put enough other good players on the field and they finished last.

So, maybe winning in hockey doesn’t mean that you can win in MLB.

by MarkInDallas on Feb 7, 2010 1:07 PM EST up reply actions

Maybe the Steinbrenners can buy the Pirates...

They would have enough to spend 100 million on our team and still outspend Boston. Plus they would be recovering some of their shared revenue from the Yankees to the Pirates. And if they needed/wanted a partner he could hook up with Donald Trump. PNC park could be TRUMP field and any time a player is cut or traded the Donald could personally say “You’re Fired!”….

How about Michael Jordan?

If anyone’s a proven winner in another sport, it’s that guy. He even PLAYED baseball for a summer, so he knows everything there is to know about the game. And money? Who has more money than MJ? Who has more ability to turn a team into a winner just by lookign at it?

By God, that guy should try owning a team someday. I don’t see how that couldn’t work out anything less than terrific.

Fire Bruce Arians too!

Go back to watching the Pens since they’re winners. Why does simply living in PGH make everyone think they have an educated opinion? I bet this guy can’t name more than 2 of our “bad” prospects.

Came up with my name a year ago so you may want to check out your numbers.

out there want Arians gone. You know the same one that helped us win the Super Bowl just last season.
