Kevin Hart Still Beats Josh Fogg?

At the same time that I was absorbing the less-than-stellar performance of Kevin Hart in today's game, I ran across a piece by R.J. Anderson on Fangraphs. To no one's surprise,

Hart’s issue has been control. He’s finding the zone at a career rate of 45.5%. Of qualified starters last year, only Joe Saunders (43.8%) pitched within the zone less often.

But Anderson also notes that batters tend not to make great contact against Hart. Therein lies the rub. Can you run someone out as a starter who walks this many people? But you know that control issues are unlikely to get resolved in the irregular work of a major league reliever. Thus far, of course, McCutchen is busy trying to make any starting role for Hart non-existent.

Technically speaking...

…Hart is probably still ahead of Fogg at this point, given that Fogg hasn’t been healthy enough to take the mound yet.

Hart / Cutch II

I saw very little from Kevin Hart last year that impressed me and I’m seeing even less this spring. Dan McCutchen may not make your eyes pop out, but he has better control and certainly looks to be worth of the #5 spot in the rotation. Hart = Bobby Hill. Cubs got us again.

Don't get too worked up over Kevin Hart to this point.

The same people who are upset over his early March games are probably the same ones who were obsessed with Craig Monroe as a power-bat off the bench in 2009 and all the “veteranosity” that went with it.

The season opener is something like April 5. Hart will probably debut around the 11th-a month from now.

If Hart sucks when the games count, the team will have other options.

And Fogg was our 3rd starter, as well…

Does Hart have an option?

Maybe the best thing is for him to start regularly in Indy and let Cutch II take the 5th starter spot to start the season.
