Delwyn Young
I mean come on, how can he not make the opening day roster over Vazquez. After tuning into this Sunday's game he looked good. Granite it is spring training but he has 3 jacks already and he has shown improvement witht the glove at second. Still average at best but thats good enough if he keeps doing what he does best at the dish. He made 2 nice plays at second today, and added a homer run, what do ya'll think?

From ther reports...
on the Bucs shopping Vasquez I’d say that Young has the upper hand. At this point I expect him to make the team.
A week or so ago I was thinking no way could he be an everyday 2nd baseman. Utility guy sure, but not the caliber of a starting 2nd baseman. But man he sure lookes solid with the glove today. The snag of the liner and the unassissted dp were really good plays. Plus he looks like he is locked in with the bat right now. He should definately make the roster out of spring.
Range is the biggest factor...
or lack thereof. Plus I think consistency is a problem as well. He’s just never been a good defender at any level so I’m skeptical he can turn into an average defender. While he is hitting well in the spring I just don’t think he has enough bat to make up for his shortcomings defensively. If he can become close to an average defender than he will become a useful bench player.
Totally agree...
Delwyn has to be considered the favorite a bench spot. He was very good in the pinch hitting role last year, and he has improved his defense since last year. He’s also fairly young, so why wouldn’t you keep him? Good bat, decent defense, can play all over the diamond…YEP, I’LL TAKE THAT!
I think they will keep him...
but his defense is still pretty far from decent. I’m hoping he can improve enough to be just below average. If he can do that he has some value. I’d definitely keep him over Vasquez though.
I don't know...
His defense hasn’t been all that bad this spring, especially today. I don’t think he is as much of a liability as people think. Just my opinion though.
I think that "average at best" gives him too much credit...
…but at this point all the signs seem to indicate that he’ll beat out Vazquez.
Similarly, I think Raynor has already come close to punching Moss’s ticket.
Did you see
That DK is convinced otherwise? In Monday’s paper he says that management doesn’t seem to care that Raynor’s hitting .44 or that Moss is hitting .000. No idea why that would be, though (I mean, I can see liking Moss more, but not to the extent that the competition is over 3 weeks early despite performances that couldn’t be more disparate. Maybe Raynor made a pass at somebody’s wife).
I think it's more a case of...
not liking Raynor’s OF defense. From what I have heard he has taken some bad routes and misplayed some balls. Just doesn’t look major league ready yet. He also isn’t running as fast as advertised (I think DK may have reported that). I’m going from what I’ve read on blogs or listened to on the radio, I’ve only been able to see two games and he wasn’t in either.
There was an article on the team site last week...
…about roster spots, and there were a couple of tells in it as far as the disposition of roster spots.
Right now, I think they’re just trying to talk up Moss to improve their chances of trading him. Which aren’t great odds, but hey, why not?
The internet is great for stuff like this
sometimes people will mean “wannabes” and say “want of bees”. Granite is one of the best I’ve seen.
That said, I totally agree with the OP.

My personal favorite
Is “mighswell” intead of “might as well”
One more, from work.
How could I forget?
“Palladium window” (instead of the correct “Palladian window”). “Palladium” is an expensive metallic element similar to platinum, wholly unsuitable for window-making. “Palladian” is a reference to the architectural style of Venetian architect Andrea Palladio (with a Palladian window pictured below).

“Palladium window”: 105,000 Google hits
“Palladian window”: 38,600 Google hits
As an architect
I’m just stunned.
Although I’ll note that at least my spellcheck flags Palladian but not palladium, so presumably at least some people are being led astray. Still, that’s a pretty definitive Googlefight win.
Wait, it's not shoe-in?
I’ve become convinced that 90% of the population believes that “tow the line” is correct.
Young
was 3rd on the team with hits last year, you just don’t dump a bat like his
Agreed...
especially on a team like the Pirates. You gotta keep him around. We’ll see if management is really willing to eat Vazquez’s contract.
He also had the 3rd most at-bats, so that’s not saying much.

BTW
I’m (relatively) a Young booster, but if the Orioles want to give the Pirates anything of value for him, then I think they should take it. I think he’s more valuable than just releasing him to keep Moss or (egad) Vazquez, but I also think that he is unlikely ever to have much trade value, so they should grab it if they can. Unlike Bix, I think the floor should be a bit higher than “warm body,” but if they can get, say, a AA pitcher with a bit of upside (as in, might be an effective 7th inning guy someday), I wouldn’t object at all. OTOH, I don’t see any point in giving him up for, say, a low-A righty with medium stuff.
