Red Sox at Pirates

Haven't been around too much the last few days, sorry about that folks.  Lineups:

Red Sox

  1. Mike Cameron CF
  2. Dustin Pedroia 2B
  3. Víctor Matrínez 1B
  4. David Ortiz DH
  5. Jason Varitek C
  6. Jeremy Hermida LF
  7. Bill Hall SS
  8. Tug Hulett 3B
  9. Josh Reddick RF

Pitching:  Josh Beckett, Scott Atchinson, Brian Shouse, Junichi Tazawa

Pirates

  1. Andrew McCutchen CF
  2. Ronny Cedeño SS
  3. Akinori Iwamura 2B
  4. Garrett Jones DH
  5. Ryan Doumit C
  6. Lastings Milledge LF
  7. Jeff Clement 1B
  8. Andy LaRoche 3B
  9. Delwyn Young RF

Pitching:  Paul Maholm, Vinnie Chulk, Brendan Donnelly, Evan Meek, Brian Burress

This is a real interesting lineup.  All the projected starters, plus Delwyn because we have a DH.  I think if anything I might just rather switch Cutch and Iwamura in this lineup.  I'm OK like this too though.  Who are all these Red Sox?  I had to look if they've got a split squad today (they do not).  You've got to imagine they are evaluating the bottom half of this lineup still?  I know their lineup is weaker this year, but this one doesn't even make me blink.  Pedroia should probably be in the cleanup spot.  Anyways, lets wake up the bats, guys!

missed McCutchen

Cedeño pops to shallow left-center and makes it to second when neither Hermida or Cameron make much effort to get to the ball

by poorboywilly on Mar 19, 2010 1:18 PM EDT reply actions

Iwamura Ks

Garret Jones goes 3-1, but makes an out. End of the first, 2-0 Red Sox.

BTW, I take full responsibility for the jinx I laid on us by talking about how flat the Red Sox lineup looked…sorry.

by poorboywilly on Mar 19, 2010 1:30 PM EDT reply actions

Doumit on with a double

Milledge chops to third, Hulett barely gets Milledge at first, one down.

by poorboywilly on Mar 19, 2010 1:34 PM EDT reply actions

Do you watch the games live?

Or listen to them? Just wondering if you have MLB TV.

by psudynasty on Mar 19, 2010 1:37 PM EDT up reply actions

I have it

but not many of the spring games are televised. Almost all of them have audio.

by poorboywilly on Mar 19, 2010 1:39 PM EDT up reply actions

Impressions?

I think I’ll get it for the season, even though I already get all the Pirates games.

by psudynasty on Mar 19, 2010 1:42 PM EDT up reply actions

Clement walks

first and second for LaRoch….who homers to left field. At least the home plate ump called it fair, but the 2nd base ump called it foul. Now they are calling it foul. Russell out to talk.

by poorboywilly on Mar 19, 2010 1:38 PM EDT reply actions

Now he lines it to left

RBI single on the “redo” for LaRoche. 2-1 Red Sox.

by poorboywilly on Mar 19, 2010 1:40 PM EDT reply actions

hey thanks for doin this poorboy

really helps those of us who cant listen to the audio or watch on tv. How has Maholm looked, aside from the ortiz homer?

by theatrain on Mar 19, 2010 1:43 PM EDT reply actions

well

he’s sounded good. Especially the second inning he made some quick work and was real effecient. Even the first inning, if Cedeño would have made that play he wouldn’t have even seen Ortiz that inning.

This third inning has started a bit rocky, some balls hit hard in the air.

by poorboywilly on Mar 19, 2010 1:50 PM EDT up reply actions

Cameron

thrown out by a good margin at the plate after Pedroia doubles.

by poorboywilly on Mar 19, 2010 1:49 PM EDT reply actions

Thanks too

I don’t usually comment on game threads, but I follow along.

by azibuck on Mar 19, 2010 1:51 PM EDT up reply actions

cool

glad people enjoy it…for a while today I was pretty sure I was talking to myself :)

by poorboywilly on Mar 19, 2010 1:52 PM EDT up reply actions

Thanks as well

I have MLB and could watch at work but listening is a bit too distracting. This is the only place to grab a quick update that I’ve found.

by MDBuc on Mar 19, 2010 5:30 PM EDT up reply actions

Martínez

lines to right, Scrappy was frozen on the play and Pedroia scores. 3-1 Red Sox.

by poorboywilly on Mar 19, 2010 1:51 PM EDT reply actions

Ortiz

flies high to center field. Cedeño, Iwamura, Jones due up, 3-1 Sox.

by poorboywilly on Mar 19, 2010 1:53 PM EDT reply actions

Iwamura

grounds a single to the right side

by poorboywilly on Mar 19, 2010 2:01 PM EDT reply actions

Jones goes full

then drives it over Cameron’s head. Iwamura in to score, Jones to second. 3-2 Red Sox.

by poorboywilly on Mar 19, 2010 2:04 PM EDT reply actions

MVP....

already in July form. Since we don’t know what his April-June form is.

by dtoddwin on Mar 19, 2010 2:08 PM EDT up reply actions

Martínez

makes a fantastic play apparently to get Doumit, has to get to the bag on his own as Beckett stands watching. Jones moves to third.

Milledge pops out to right. End of the third, 3-2 Red Sox.

by poorboywilly on Mar 19, 2010 2:08 PM EDT reply actions

Hall goes down quickly too

nice inning from Paul. Clement, LaRoche, Young due up.

by poorboywilly on Mar 19, 2010 2:14 PM EDT reply actions

Clement goes full

then flies out to the warning track in left

by poorboywilly on Mar 19, 2010 2:18 PM EDT reply actions

Beckett

really respecting LaRoche’s power showing…four pitch walk to Andy :)

by poorboywilly on Mar 19, 2010 2:20 PM EDT reply actions

Scrappy

increases his home run lead, two run shot to right field. 4-3 Pirates!

by poorboywilly on Mar 19, 2010 2:22 PM EDT reply actions

Bob Walk

was making the point (as he has before) that there is no sense fretting over the money. Once you sign a guy to a guaranteed contract, that money is spent. If he’s not the best option, just cut him. It’s a good point, especially when it isn’t heaps of money (Matt Morris anyone?).

by poorboywilly on Mar 19, 2010 2:57 PM EDT up reply actions

Burress in to pitch

Hulett flies out, Reddick singles to right.

by poorboywilly on Mar 19, 2010 2:30 PM EDT reply actions

by poorboywilly on Mar 19, 2010 2:34 PM EDT reply actions

even with RISP

Jones just crushes a home run to center. 6-3 Pirates.

by poorboywilly on Mar 19, 2010 2:38 PM EDT reply actions

Doumit

flies out to right. Clement skies one on the infield, Martínez retires him.

by poorboywilly on Mar 19, 2010 2:44 PM EDT reply actions

oops

Doumit is on first, must have been Milledge who flied to right.

by poorboywilly on Mar 19, 2010 2:45 PM EDT up reply actions

LaRoche

lines out to center. End of the fifth—6-3 Pirates.

by poorboywilly on Mar 19, 2010 2:47 PM EDT reply actions

Luke Carlin behind the plate, Moss in left, Vázquez at short, “Raymor” in center, Neil Walker in right, Jim Negrych at 2B, Jeremy Farrell at 3B

by poorboywilly on Mar 19, 2010 2:49 PM EDT reply actions

Negrych

gets a ball sliding in the outfield grass, but can’t get the ball over to first, Ortiz is pinch run for on first

by poorboywilly on Mar 19, 2010 2:53 PM EDT reply actions

Farrell

to Negrych to Myrow double play ends the inning. That’s a PBP line I didn’t expect to be saying. Walker, Raynor, Vázquez should be due up.

by poorboywilly on Mar 19, 2010 2:56 PM EDT reply actions

Could you please...

type with a Howard Cosell accent?!? I want to be flashing back to 1979. I’ll put on the Sister Sledge!

by Larry Harrell on Mar 19, 2010 2:58 PM EDT reply actions

I have a hard enough time

conveying sarcasm on the tubes, I think Cosell will be really tough.

by poorboywilly on Mar 19, 2010 2:59 PM EDT up reply actions

It would probably...

end up sounding like Captain Kirk, after a few Romulan Ales

by Larry Harrell on Mar 19, 2010 3:01 PM EDT up reply actions

Walker

first pitch single to right field. Raynor grounds to third, fielders choice gets Walker at second.

by poorboywilly on Mar 19, 2010 2:58 PM EDT reply actions

Vázquez

GIDP. End of the sixth, 6-3 Pirates.

by poorboywilly on Mar 19, 2010 3:00 PM EDT reply actions

Hall doubles

down the left field line. He gets pinch run for. Walker dives for a ball in right, but doesn’t make it…Reddick gets a double, but runner only advances to third.

Bases loaded now

one down. Chulk walks in a run. 6-5 Pirates.

by poorboywilly on Mar 19, 2010 3:17 PM EDT reply actions

Negrych

base hit. Steve Pearce opposite field HR. 8-6 Pirates.

by poorboywilly on Mar 19, 2010 3:23 PM EDT reply actions

if its possible to make out from the audio broadcast, could you let us know if the HRs are wind-aided or not! With so many HRs to all parts, it d be useful to make the distinction!

Again, thanks for the PBP!

by BurgherKing on Mar 19, 2010 3:26 PM EDT up reply actions

Bob Walk

wants to go one day without talking about wind, so they aren’t helping things. But they said he put a real nice swing on it, and judging by how quickly it went from crack of the bat to home run, I don’t think that was wind-aided at all.

by poorboywilly on Mar 19, 2010 3:27 PM EDT up reply actions

the Jones home run

was absolutely crushed by all accounts, so no wind there. Young HR I don’t know, it sounded iffy.

by poorboywilly on Mar 19, 2010 3:28 PM EDT up reply actions

yeah

young has so many recently, that there’s considerable room for doubt. He can put them out, no doubt, but I m not sure that the power surge is real, even if its a phase.

by BurgherKing on Mar 19, 2010 3:33 PM EDT up reply actions

Carlin flies out to right

Moss “rips” a ball into right field, a single, his first hit of the spring, now 1-23. The dugout is calling for the ball to save.

by poorboywilly on Mar 19, 2010 3:26 PM EDT reply actions

Myrow must have gotten out

Jeremy Farrell base hit, first and second two outs.

by poorboywilly on Mar 19, 2010 3:29 PM EDT reply actions

Walker goes full

called out on strikes. End of the 7th, 8-6 Pirates, and I must be off. See you all later.

by poorboywilly on Mar 19, 2010 3:32 PM EDT reply actions

If anybody knows...

How is it that Negrych, Farrell, etc. are playing for us, given that they are neither 40-man guys nor NRI’s?

Hey, an out is an out - unless you're Mario, in which case it's probably two outs. -UtesFan89

Why can't Mendy bust a long TD run? We could use it.

by wg1of5 on Mar 19, 2010 3:42 PM EDT reply actions

They just come over from minor league camp. There’s no rule that they have to be on the roster or be NRIs.

by WTM on Mar 19, 2010 3:50 PM EDT up reply actions

Call ups from minor league camp....

Gives them a chance to play in a big league game as late inning subs. Happens quite often in early spring games.

by Hitman Easler on Mar 19, 2010 3:50 PM EDT up reply actions

The Pirates have been making a point...

…of bringing a different couple of those guys over every day and giving them a few innings of late-game time, as a reward.

by Vlad on Mar 19, 2010 4:21 PM EDT up reply actions

I've noticed that...

Even Gift got in one game this week

by Hitman Easler on Mar 19, 2010 4:24 PM EDT up reply actions

And also.

Meek gives up three straight hits to begin the inning, including an RBI double by Jason Place. 8-7 Pirates after 7 and a half.

One heck of a start by poorboywilly.

I had to leave right before the end, though, so I had to settle for the hold. Eh.

Great commentary

the evil webmeister blocks streaming audio at work and I have an interior office, so no radio even. The best I can get is the live box scores. This helps get a feel f/the game, more so than reading the box score.
