Astros at Pirates

Finally our Pirates are back.  Seemed like a long time ago they played, especially with the rainout infuriatingly corresponding with a televised game.  Looks like the opening day lineup to me, although it might be Maholm getting the start on opening day.

Astros

  1. T.J. Steele CF
  2. Kazuo Matsui 2B
  3. Jason Michaels LF
  4. Pedro Feliz 3B
  5. Chris Shelton 1B
  6. Edwin Maysonet SS
  7. Humberto Quintero C
  8. Drew Locke RF
  9. Felipe Paulino P

Pitching:  Felipe Paulino, Brandon Lyon, Shane Loux, Gary Majewski

Pirates

  1. Andrew McCutchen CF
  2. Akinori Iwamura 2B
  3. Garrett Jones RF
  4. Ryan Doumit C
  5. Jeff Clement 1B
  6. Lastings Milledge LF
  7. Ronny Cedeño SS
  8. Andy LaRoche 3B
  9. Ross Ohlendorf P

Pitching:  Ross Ohlendorf, Anthony Claggett, Steven Jackson, Jeremy Powell

Where are all the Astros?  I know Berkman is hurt, but seriously, Feliz in the four-hole?  Where are Lee and Pence?

I take full responsibility for jinxing us by mocking the Astros lineup. Sorry…

Locke grounds out

to Iwamura to end the half. McCutchen, Iwamura and Jones due up, 2-0 Astros.

Wow

Is it too soon to recall Hart from minor league camp? :)

by curvefan on Mar 23, 2010 1:20 PM EDT reply actions

Jones almost picked off by Quintero. Doumit walks.

by poorboywilly on Mar 23, 2010 1:29 PM EDT reply actions

Paulino groundout to Iwamura

Cedeño

quickly grounds out to second, LaRoche flies out to Michaels.

by poorboywilly on Mar 23, 2010 1:47 PM EDT reply actions

Ohlendorf pickoff attempt into the stands…Shelton to second. Ross not sounding sharp today.

doubles off the wall, Shelton scores 5-1 Astros.

by poorboywilly on Mar 23, 2010 1:56 PM EDT reply actions

infield hit up the middle, off the glove of Maysonet.

by poorboywilly on Mar 23, 2010 2:02 PM EDT reply actions

Iwamura

called out on strikes, “maybe an iffy strike three call”

by poorboywilly on Mar 23, 2010 2:04 PM EDT reply actions

Shelton

makes a fine play to get Jones out. McCutchen must have gotten thrown out stealing, because they went to commercials…end of the third, 5-1 Astros.

by poorboywilly on Mar 23, 2010 2:07 PM EDT reply actions

Steele

leadoff double—back-to-back curveballs, maybe he’s working on his curve today they say.

by poorboywilly on Mar 23, 2010 2:09 PM EDT reply actions

Matsui

can of corn single to right. Then he gets picked off, luckily Matsui froze on the paths or he might have gotten to second with Clement checking Steele on third.

Didn't T.J. Steele

have a mini-series in the 90’s? . Who is this guy?

by Hitman Easler on Mar 23, 2010 2:13 PM EDT reply actions

Ohlendorf

Ks Michaels, goes full and walks Feliz.

by poorboywilly on Mar 23, 2010 2:16 PM EDT reply actions

Whatever demon was possessing Hart probably didn’t want to go to the minors and possessed Ohlie.

by WTM on Mar 23, 2010 2:17 PM EDT reply actions

for a little bit of a grain of salt

they commented several times on his curveballs. It sounded like he was throwing a lot of them and also struggling with locating them, so hopefully he was trying to work the junk out of his curve today.

by poorboywilly on Mar 23, 2010 2:19 PM EDT up reply actions

Shelton

doubles off the wall in right, Steele and Feliz score. 7-1 Astros. Chases Ross from the game.

by poorboywilly on Mar 23, 2010 2:18 PM EDT reply actions

Taschner

in to pitch, Maysonet flies out to right. End of the half, Doumit, Clement, Milledge due up.

In other news, the (horrendous) Pennsylvania lottery commercial is playing now. It really seems like the don’t start playing them until after 2:00 PM ET. Is it like alcohol, they figure you can’t start in too early in the day?

by poorboywilly on Mar 23, 2010 2:22 PM EDT reply actions

Whew

9 hits and 3 walks in 3.2…………

by Hitman Easler on Mar 23, 2010 2:25 PM EDT reply actions

Clement

also broken bat hit, Doumit has to kind of dodge the shrapnel

by poorboywilly on Mar 23, 2010 2:26 PM EDT reply actions

apparently

Doumit got out in the DP, Clement was left on second, so Clement makes it to third as Cedeño singles to right.

However, LaRoche grounds out to third. End of the fourth, 7-1 Astros.

by poorboywilly on Mar 23, 2010 2:29 PM EDT reply actions

Quintero

flies out to right. Locke singles. Paulino in to hit again, but doesn’t appear to be bunting.

by poorboywilly on Mar 23, 2010 2:33 PM EDT reply actions

after speaking with the third base coach

Paulino does bunt, LaRoche makes a nice play and gets Locke at second.

by poorboywilly on Mar 23, 2010 2:34 PM EDT reply actions

Steele flies out to Milledge

end of the half, pitcher’s spot, McCutchen and Iwamura due up.

by poorboywilly on Mar 23, 2010 2:35 PM EDT reply actions

Vázquez pinch hits

strike three called. Cutch got out real fast somehow. Iwamura doubles down the line to left.

by poorboywilly on Mar 23, 2010 2:39 PM EDT reply actions

Jones flies out

We’ve had plenty of baserunners, seven hits and a walk, but can’t capitalize at all. End of the fifth, 7-1 Astros.

by poorboywilly on Mar 23, 2010 2:41 PM EDT reply actions

Vázquez stays in on a double switch

gets a grounder from Keppinger. Michaels hit to center, he gets pinch run and Claggett picks off the PR. Feliz grounds out to Cedeño. End of the half.

Milledge

lines out to short. End of the sixth, 7-1 Astros.

by poorboywilly on Mar 23, 2010 2:54 PM EDT reply actions

Claggett still pitching

Shelton crushing us. Weak pop hit to shallow right.

Maysonet doubles off the wall. Shelton scores, Maysonet to third on the throw.

by poorboywilly on Mar 23, 2010 2:59 PM EDT reply actions

Cedeño charged with error

on the relay. Kratz is catching, Moss in left, Raynor in center, Young in right, Pearce at first.

Claggett Ks Cash, first out, 8-1 Astros.

by poorboywilly on Mar 23, 2010 3:01 PM EDT reply actions

Locke

hits a ball to right field. Scrappy is turned the wrong way, spins around, and smashes into wall as ball falls. Locke into third. Maysonet scores, 9-1 Astros. Scrappy appropriately appears to be OK after lying on all fours for a minute.

by poorboywilly on Mar 23, 2010 3:02 PM EDT reply actions

groundout

to Cedeño, runner stays at third. Two down. Steele jammed, infield single over Claggett that Cedeño can’t make a play on either. 10-1 Astros.

by poorboywilly on Mar 23, 2010 3:04 PM EDT reply actions

Keppinger

mercilessly fouls out to Pearce. Stretch time.

by poorboywilly on Mar 23, 2010 3:07 PM EDT reply actions

Cedeño

watches strike three. LaRoche does something. Vázquez draws a walk. Raynor grounds out. End of the seventh. Shhhhh…the bats are sleeping.

by poorboywilly on Mar 23, 2010 3:14 PM EDT reply actions

Stephen Jackson pitching

Jeremy Farrell at third, D’arnaud at short. Pearce gobbles up a grounder unassisted.

by poorboywilly on Mar 23, 2010 3:16 PM EDT reply actions

Matt Kata

home run “well out” to left. 11-1 Astros.

by poorboywilly on Mar 23, 2010 3:17 PM EDT reply actions

Ori grounds out

Majewski stays in to hit, strikes out.

by poorboywilly on Mar 23, 2010 3:20 PM EDT reply actions

Farrell

up to hit, he was double switched into the pitcher’s spot. Hits a nice line drive to right field, but is caught. I think Scrappy got out. Kratz draws a four pitch walk.

by poorboywilly on Mar 23, 2010 3:26 PM EDT reply actions

Pearce grounds out

end of the eight. Can the Pirates get at least one inning where they don’t get smacked around? I guess Taschner only gave up one hit in fifth, but still.

by poorboywilly on Mar 23, 2010 3:28 PM EDT reply actions

Powell pitching

Got my request, quick inning. Didn’t even hear what happened except Farrell got an assist for the second out and caught a soft liner to end it. Pirates’ last chance, Moss, D’arnaud, pitcher’s spot due up.

by poorboywilly on Mar 23, 2010 3:34 PM EDT reply actions

d'Arnaud

singles to right field, just barely cut off.

by poorboywilly on Mar 23, 2010 3:40 PM EDT reply actions

Ngoepe pinch hitting. He goes 3-1 and then walks. Vázquez up.

by poorboywilly on Mar 23, 2010 3:43 PM EDT reply actions

Vázquez

fouls out to Cash. Raynor is the last chance.

by poorboywilly on Mar 23, 2010 3:43 PM EDT reply actions

Raynor flies to right foul territory

Locke makes the catch as he’s bending over the railing. Old fashioned beatdown, 11-1 Astros. Pirates committ three errors, leave seven on base, and generally sound inept today. Powell and Taschner the only rays of sunshine today.

by poorboywilly on Mar 23, 2010 3:46 PM EDT reply actions

Nice...

Pirates A team gets beat by Astros B team…11-1.

by Thunder on Mar 23, 2010 4:22 PM EDT reply actions

It's

all Garrett Moss’s fault!
