Blue Jays at Pirates
I won't be around for this one, but I'll start up a thread if anyone wants to discuss it. Lineups:
- José Bautista 3B
- Aaron Hill 2B
- Jeremy Reed RF
- Kyle Phillips 1B
- Edwin Encarnación DH
- Chris Lubanski LF
- Alex González SS
- José Molina C
- Joey Gathright CF
Pitching: Brian Tallet
- Akinori Iwamura 2B
- Andrew McCutchen CF
- Garrett Jones RF
- Ryan Doumit C
- Lastings Milledge LF
- Jeff Clement 1B
- Andy LaRoche 3B
- Daniel McCutchen P
- Ronny Cedeño SS
Pitching: Daniel McCutchen, Evan Meek, Brendan Donnelly, Jeff Karstens, Anthony Clagget, Stephen Jackson
I guess Russell decided he couldn't have two McCutchens hit in a row. I really dislike Andrew in the two hole. I think he's either leadoff or three hole, I really don't see any advantages of having him hit second. Oh well, just ST.

Bautista doubled
Hill infield single, Reed singled in Bautista. Phillips groundout put runners on second and third. McCutchen really buckled down and K’d Encarnación and Lubanski to end the inning. 1-0 Blue Jays.
See you all later…go Pirates!

Bueller?
And it’s 8-0 Toronto halfway through the game. Tallet has given up two hits (one for each Cutch) and one walk (GFJ) through four innings.
DCutch: 4 IP, 5 R (2 ER), 5 H, 1 BB, 4 K.
Donnelly also got knocked around.
Hey, an out is an out - unless you're Mario, in which case it's probably two outs. -UtesFan89
Why can't Mendy bust a long TD run? We could use it.
officially
my lamest thread yet :)

defense behind mccutchen
was terrible today. From what I heard he pitched way better than what shows.

Yeah Cedeno botched two ground balls
thus resulting in those three unearned runs. Without those 2 errors his stat line would look respectable. At least he only walked 1. Hart would be lucky to get through 1 inning without walking a guy.

I would be
spring training has been one giant cluster****. Barring a few individuals, everything from defense to baserunning to pitching command to hitting has been pretty poor.

Another interesting thing (to me, anyway) is that, as far as I can tell, the Pirates have not had a single standout batter throughout ST outside of DY (and his slashes aren’t exactly eye-popping either, other than his slugging). You look at the Jays, who we played today, and there’s a couple of guys like Aaron Hill and Jose Bautista who have near-.500 batting averages. Similarly, there does not seem to have been a single pitcher for the Pirates this spring to post really incredible numbers – the best guys are probably Carrasco and Powell. Again, it’s only ST, but isn’t it slightly strange to have so few notable performances so far?

I've been concerned all along.
But then, I am not Pirates management. It almost appears that the management team is convinced that this team is more talented than any of them have shown at the major league level.
It’s time to stop “working on situations” and start playing ball. A week to go until the beginning of the season and there are no bright stories coming out of spring training on our 25 man roster.
And if they are concerned
Is there an upside to voicing it?
sorry
didn’t mean to imply you weren’t concerned. Hopefully everyone is getting it together, because like you say we are getting close to the ones that DO count. If anything matters in ST, maybe it is finishing strong to transition into the season.
