Tony's #
I'm sure that he wants to "create his own identity" and "not try to fill anyone's shoes" but I really think that the coolest thing Tony Sanchez could do for the fans is wear #12. For a city that is working class and bummed about all the old players leaving, could there be an easier way to win fans than saying "hey, you paid good money for those jerseys and now theyre worthless...not anymore! You now own a Tony Sanchez jersey" He'd be a hit, everyone would break out their old #12's and he'd be everywhere.
Also can all agree that Erik Kratz's nickname should be Kratz Davis? Old slugging minor league catcher who can't quite make it to the majors?

Although it would be nice of Tony, there is a few reasons why he wouldn’t do this:
-Jersey sales. Let’s say that hypothetically he became an all star, I think his jersey sales would probably be the lowest of anyone playing in the game, because everyone would have the Sanchez #12 jersey already.
-Secondly, no player wants to live in another player’s shadow. Richie Zisk replaced Clemente in right field in 1973, batting .324 with 10 HRs. Despite this, he could never live up to the comparisons to Clemente. Tony Sanchez surely would not want to intentionally bring such a burden upon himself, even if it would be a nice gesture like that.

Does the palyer get the oney? or the union just get a cut?
If it’s like some leagues where the player doesnt get money directly from his own jersey then i dont see why he would care….except the union would lean on him for hurting jersey sales in general which they would get a piece of in that case.
RIP NATE. RIP TONY PLUSH.

I don’t think he gets a direct cut of the jersey sales, but marketability can definitely play a role in his next contract. If he doesn’t have the jersey sales of, say, Romulo Sanchez, then the Pirates can argue that he doesn’t put fans in the seats. So maybe they low-ball him in the next contract.
This is just my theory on it, I’m not sure if this would actually happen.
