Thanks G

I’m at work but there is a TV that gets YES (Yankees network) that I’ll be able to, ahem, casually pass by every few minutes when there’s a batter or pitcher I want to see.

Good to see Clement handle the first leave-the-bag-and-tag-the-runner play of the spring.

by Traco Bucco on Mar 3, 2010 1:33 PM EST reply actions

It feels good to see them again.

Win or lose, it’s nice to see those guys again. And it’s nice to have an afternoon off for it. :-)

Anyone know of any free viewings online?

by Hegs on Mar 3, 2010 1:41 PM EST reply actions

Nice inning by Ohlendorf

Punches out A-Rod. Gets Thames to ground out to third (good play by LaRoche to range to his left). Springs off mound to grab Hoffman’s bouncer and throw him out by a step.

I live in NY but I prefer the MLB net to Michael “Hey Fans!” Kay

even if I do have to hear the same crap everytime:

did you know Lastings Milledge high fived fans?

did you know Ohlendorf is smart?

Did you know Mccutchen is good and Pedro is good too?

Did you know the pirates traded lots of guys for young player?

RIP NATE. RIP TONY PLUSH.

Bass comes in in the third…Iwamura makes a good play on a chopper to throw out Gardner. No sign of the injured knee.

by Traco Bucco on Mar 3, 2010 1:56 PM EST reply actions

Three close outs.

The Yanks could easily have three hits instead of three outs.

by IAPiratesFan on Mar 3, 2010 2:00 PM EST reply actions

what's up folks?

go Pirates! It’s kind of neat that our 5-6-7 hitters are actually a bit interesting

by poorboywilly on Mar 3, 2010 2:10 PM EST reply actions

Yep.

Still got the no-no going.

by IAPiratesFan on Mar 3, 2010 2:12 PM EST up reply actions

Have the Yankees hit the ball out of the infield?

I think we’ve got 2 Ks, a CS, and 9 groundball outs.

by biggyv on Mar 3, 2010 2:12 PM EST reply actions

or not

still, this guy is getting the ball hit in the air

by poorboywilly on Mar 3, 2010 2:17 PM EST up reply actions

Take Jakubaskas out!

If they kept Capps, we’d still have a no hitter!

by IAPiratesFan on Mar 3, 2010 2:24 PM EST reply actions

Clement

looks good at 1B…looks very comfortable, early he made a real good play on a throw that pulled him off the bag and fielded a grounder smoothly that came his direction

by poorboywilly on Mar 3, 2010 2:25 PM EST reply actions

...

Not a whole lot to go off, but I’d give Clement a “solid” on the day for 1B defense… definitely not a bad way to start

by CoryR on Mar 3, 2010 2:32 PM EST up reply actions

yeah

obviously he has a lot to prove still, but good start like you say.

by poorboywilly on Mar 3, 2010 2:33 PM EST up reply actions

they claimed

they would go over them as they came up to bat because it is difficult to determine that in the field (despite those numbers they have on their shirts)…but they are not.

by poorboywilly on Mar 3, 2010 2:44 PM EST up reply actions

Ken Singleton.

He was with the Orioles in 79. :-)

by IAPiratesFan on Mar 3, 2010 2:47 PM EST up reply actions

also

if Canó wins a gold glove…well, face it, the GG is pretty much meaningless at this point.

by poorboywilly on Mar 3, 2010 2:47 PM EST up reply actions

jackson

reminding everyone why he was DFA-ed?

by BurgherKing on Mar 3, 2010 2:56 PM EST reply actions

yeah I'm sure

that our scouts didn’t look at Tabata at all, they just listened to what the Yankees had to say about him.

by poorboywilly on Mar 3, 2010 2:58 PM EST reply actions

the announcers were saying

as Tabata was batting, “This guy came from the Yankees’ organization, they were saying he was can’t miss. You have to be careful, because teams will say great things about some prospects just so they can trade them for more”

or something along those lines.

by poorboywilly on Mar 3, 2010 3:06 PM EST up reply actions

bouncer up the middle

Diaz doesn’t get his glove down far enough so it skips under. It rolls into very shallow center field, Hernández is charging hard, fields the ball and throws an extremely weak ball that pulls Kratz about 20 feet up the 3B line. I believe it was Nick Johnson who scored from second. It would have been a close play with a good throw.

by poorboywilly on Mar 3, 2010 3:22 PM EST up reply actions

Pedro due up 1st in the 8th.

Hopefully against a RHP instead of Royce Ring

Our little Pedro’s first K of the year. Nice memory to have.

The games don't count,

but the real ones get closer by the day.

Looking forward to seeing what pitchers make it through March injury-free and what the ’pen looks like.

Virgil Now

They must have held him back until today so he wouldn’t get thrashed by the Manatees again, like last year.

by WTM on Mar 3, 2010 3:43 PM EST reply actions

Heh.

It’s funny because it’s true.

by Vlad on Mar 3, 2010 3:57 PM EST up reply actions

Machi

Anyone see what (velocity) he was throwing? Who did he K?

Stupid work.

by azibuck on Mar 3, 2010 3:52 PM EST reply actions

He fanned Nick Johnson and some scrub.

by WTM on Mar 3, 2010 4:09 PM EST up reply actions

I read through twitter updates

That it was in the 94-96 range.

Machi had a heckuva of a winter league from what I read.

by BadAndy on Mar 3, 2010 6:09 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

No shit?

That’s great news.

Probably a hot gun, too, but still…

by Vlad on Mar 3, 2010 8:52 PM EST up reply actions

So, on the whole...

Positives…
A nice game for Clement at first base, nice to see our pitchers Maholm and Ohlendorf throwing pretty well. Nice to get a look at Machi. Tabata did his thing by punching a single through the opposite side. Clement made some decent contact but both grounders.

Negatives…
Argenis Diaz can be sent to the minors immediately for his bonehead play. Pedro struck out. None of our regular hitters did much of anything. Aki failed to advance a runner.
