Who is the face of the Franchise
As we approach the begging of a new season I must ask who is the face of the Pittsburgh Pirates. In the last three years we have traded away the faces of the franchise, Jason Bay in 2007, Nate McClouth and Jack Wilson last year so that leaves us with the question who is the Face of the Franchise
Is it Andrew McCutchen and his blazing speed and the the poster child of the Pirates rebuilding efforts. is it Andy LaRoache and great fielding. Maybe its Garrett Jones and his underdog story, after playing the Minors for 11 years and the last 5 at AAA before being called up last year and hitting 21 HR and leading the team in that stat. Or is it a guy who has yet to play in the Majors, last years #1 draft pick Pedro Alverez who has a insane amount of buzz around him as the guy to lead us to the promised land. So I ask you who is the face of the Franchise is it any of the guys above or do you have your own idea on who is the Franchise player on this team

Easy
Cutch is Clutch! In McCutchen I Trust. Andrew McCutchen is the face of this franchise hands down, and will be until he leaves Pittsburgh, its like Hines Ward can be looked at as the face of the Steelers even though guys like Ben and Troy get more notice. IMO
easy one...
McCutchen is the face of the organization at this point…alot of baseball fans can’t even name 5 pirates probably, but they know who McCutchen is, and how special he may turn out to be…
With that being said, that’s a pretty good person to have as the face of a franchise…McCutchen seems to be a very quiet/humble person that goes about his business professionally, he’s hard working, stays out of trouble, leads by example, and has a confidence that I think will shed off on young playerrs like Alvarez, and Tabata.
I think McCutchen is directly responsible for Lastings Milledges’ smoot transition at the end of last year; he seemed to really take Lastings “under his wing”, and those two seemed to really gel together, and have fun together. I think that’s something that will carry over into this year, and may be an over looked way of getting FAs to come to Pittsburgh once we turn the corner. If players see young guys like McCutchen/Milledge/Alvarez/Tabata playing hard, winning, and having fun all at the same time it will be enticing for FAs…
e.g. I believe McCutchen started that little celebration after winning a game where everyone would conviene right behind 2nd base, and chest bump each other…
He has got a certain charisma...
but who knows? in a few years he might end up with a Tiger Woods-like saga of his own!

Hell
if I saw him walking down the street in my city, I daresay I would gush and fawn with the best of them.
Not that anyone else around here would know who he was…

Cutch doesnt drink
Not that people who drink are “Bad” (me, everyone else), or people who don’t are great people (Every crazy book burner, televangelist, people who boycott shows about gay people). But it seems to be a good sign that a young guy like Cutch wont be going all “miguel cabrera” on us, or even out at nightclubs crushing goose on his days off
RIP NATE. RIP TONY PLUSH.

Both Cutch and Alvarez will be the faces of the franchise. Kinda like Braun and Fielder with the Brewers. (And I’ll leave the comparsions at that)

Nate McLouth. Really.
He’s worshiped by many fans who appreciate his scrappy intangibles, recognized by smart fans as being vastly overrated, and he’s been traded by for some much-needed prospects.
(This could also apply to Nyjer Morgan.)
Who the heck voted for someone else
than McCutchen.
That’s like voting for Chris Kunitz for the face of the Pens. Okay maybe not as bad, but you get the idea.

I say Cutch
I don’t think he will be the best player on the future teams, but he was here first. I will give the face of the franchise to Cutch, although I hate handing that out to the longest tenured player (excluding Doumit due to injuries, and our pitchers because they aren’t really exciting, and Luis Cruz and others because they aren’t regulars).
Hell, look at Jack WIlson, one of the most offensively challenged starters in the Bigs. He didn’t win over fans with his mammoth HRs, his .350 avg, or his RBIs, he was appointed, unofficially, the face of the franchise due to his long tenure with the Pirates. Was his defense great? Yeah! But that’s not the kind of guy you want to build a team around.
So although I think Pedro Alvarez, and Tony Sanchez, and Jose Tabata could all be better players than Cutch, there’s no way they take his throne.
**Has anyone ever watched Gorkys Hernandez play? He plays with so much confidence and looks so cocky out there… I want him to be our face of the franchise. I’ll even paint a portrait of Gorkys as a centaur if I have to.

Cutch...
has a way higher ceiling than Sanchez and arguably and most likely Tabata as well. He will be face to the franchisbe because he has the ability to be a perennial All-Star and between he and Pedro, Cutch is more likely to be extended to a longer contract.
I've never seen Gorkys play...
From what it’s looking like, I don’t think I’ll ever get to see Gorkys play unless I go to Altoona to see a game (which I plan on doing this summer). The way he’s playing it does’nt look like he’ll ever warrant a job in Pittsburgh. I hate saying that too, because I was really excited when we acquired him…I think it’s safe to say he’s the biggest disapointment in our organization right now. He definetely still has time to live up to his hype, but it’s not looking good right now…

I'd say right now Nate McLouth is the face of the franchise.
Let’s hope the Bucs turn things around and people don’t think of the Pirates as the cheapskate team that trades all their best players for prospects.
Honus Wagner is polling better than I thought he whould
