Pirates Season Preview
I wrote a season preview over at SBNation.com. In case you're wondering, the very ending was recontextualized by an editor--I did not say that the season doesn't matter.

So when the Pirates do start winning, it’ll be “out of nowhere”. Kind of like the Rays last year.
But wait. All of a sudden, these seasons that “Didn’t matter” becomes the focus of rigorous analysis by people like our friend the editor, and they come to generous conclusions that the seasons did matter after all, due to smart trades and drafting.
I’m not actually offended, I’m just a homework assignment away from spring break and I’m extremely work logged.
That "recontextualizing"
would irritate the heck out of me. Insinuating that your conclusion was “Does it matter?” rather than saying it was the editor’s conclusion is pretty lame. (I’m trying to keep it clean and my temper down, but this sort of thing relly puts a bee in my bonnet.) It’s called attribution and now that conclusion is attributed to you.
To be fair, I was asked by SBNation about the Vegas odds of the Pirates winning the World Series. My response to the Vegas odds was “Does it matter?”
However, I certainly did not say that the season didn’t matter. They changed the header from “Thoughts on the Vegas Odds,” or something like that, to “Conclusion.”

It just doesn’t matter.

It just doesn’t matter.
It just doesn’t matter …

I read this yesterday and thought it was a great summary. Gave all the pertinent info about the Pirates for someone who doesn’t follow the team.
I did think your conclusion was a little bizarre but your explanation makes sense.
I made most of my life decisions at a Foghat concert... I stand by them.
