Pirates at Orioles

Pirates Lineup:

  1. Iwamura 2B
  2. Tabata LF
  3. Jones RF
  4. Doumit C
  5. Pearce 1B
  6. Moss DH
  7. Cedeno SS
  8. Walker 3B
  9. Raynor CF

Orioles Lineup

  1. Jones CF
  2. Andino SS
  3. Markakis RF
  4. Tejada 3B
  5. Weiters C
  6. Scott DH
  7. Atkins 1B
  8. Tucker LF
  9. Davis 2B

So that's where Garrett Atkins ended up.  Zach Duke and Daniel McCutchen should be pitching two innings each, and Virgil Vasquez, Evan Meek, Javier Lopez and Jeremy Powell will also see the mound.

Should be interesting to see what Tabata and Jones do, as well as how Meek fares.  I will assume that after VV pitches the game is out of reach.

Duke

also 1-2-3 inning, Markakis Ks. Andino hit a long fly ball that Raynor caught.

Trivia Time

According to the just-published Bill James Gold Mine 2010, Duke had the lowest % of 20+ pitch innings in MLB last year.

Now back to the game.

by WTM on Mar 5, 2010 7:27 PM EST up reply actions

I guess that would mean a high inning count for a season wouldn’t be quite as damaging a stat as it would be to a lot of pitchers.

by Thunder on Mar 5, 2010 8:46 PM EST up reply actions

Doubly so

Fewer total pitches, plus less stress, since current thinking seems to be that high-pitch innings are relatively more stressful even if the pitcher’s total pitch count stays the same.

by WTM on Mar 5, 2010 9:09 PM EST up reply actions

Wonder if...

JR had that stat last September 28th?? Probably not. If Duke remains true to form…he should lead the team in complete games this year…about 3.

by Thunder on Mar 5, 2010 9:17 PM EST up reply actions

that's

three balls in the air in a row for Duke, giving the O’s a sac fly run.

I don't think so

I’m getting mlb.tv radio feed from WPGB

It is on 104.7 though if anyone’s trying to listen.

Yeah. They have an online stream, but it looks like they’re playing the Fox News stuff on there rather than the game.

by ElDuce on Mar 5, 2010 7:45 PM EST up reply actions

most likely something to do with their contract with the Pirates

my local AM station has contracts with the Blue Jackets, Reds and Bengals and you can’t listen to the games online

The MLB audio app there is supposedly going to start carrying ST games soon, though they don’t have the stream working quite yet.

Wieters proves Littlefield’s doubts correct, as he couldn’t even throw out Ronny Cedeno stealing third. Cedeno’s usually pretty awful at stealing bases.

Iwamura

drives in Cedeño, 1st and 2nd, 1 out for Tábata

Robert Andino

SS, played for the Marlins until last year when he played 78 games for Baltimore. He’ll be 26 in April.

by poorboywilly on Mar 5, 2010 8:06 PM EST up reply actions

We nearly traded Bixler for him...

…in spring training last year, because Perry Hill loved him when they were both with the Marlins.

He’s also the likely-case scenario on what Argenis Diaz will grow up to be.

Yes, the exact same commercials and promos will run the entire season, many of which were played the entirety of last season. The Pirates radio stations have always had the absolute worst commercials.

by Schide on Mar 5, 2010 8:47 PM EST up reply actions

I never thought I’d say this, but it’s making me miss hearing “Cigna and the K-Team” commercials in between innings.

by Traco Bucco on Mar 5, 2010 8:56 PM EST up reply actions

Two middle infield errors in the inning give the Os a run so far.

by Schide on Mar 5, 2010 8:41 PM EST reply actions

And an error by Walker puts runners on the corners.

by Schide on Mar 5, 2010 8:44 PM EST up reply actions

Inning ends with no more errors though.

by Schide on Mar 5, 2010 8:46 PM EST up reply actions

Pearce

gets to second, but double off to end the inning.

That Pennsylvania lottery commercial might make me go insane this year.

by poorboywilly on Mar 5, 2010 8:55 PM EST reply actions

What is this, the third year they’ve been playing that? Fourth?

You’d think some of the money they’re making from that could go to making more, less severely annoying commercials.

by Schide on Mar 5, 2010 8:56 PM EST up reply actions

money from the Pennsylvania lottery

Jonathan Tucker

26-year-old NRI (Stats). Utility type. Seems to like to run – stole 34 bases last year, and got caught 12 more times.

Not related to anything today, but does anyone know where Brandon Jones is right now? Shouldn’t he have come into a game at some point by now?

by WTM on Mar 5, 2010 9:05 PM EST up reply actions

Granted...

it’s only 3 games (well…2.78 games)…but offense does seem to be a little limited…10 hits in 25 innings.

it even came off a pitcher that has appeared in a Major League game, and not a minor league scrub. A little confidence boost doesn’t hurt.

Yeah, but at least this year

Vx2 is competing for a roster spot, not the 4th or 5th rotation spot. That is a step in the right direction for this team
