Pirates Interested in HS 3B Kris Bryant
Since people are already talking about the draft here, I thought I'd share this link, in which Nevada HS 3B Kris Bryant's coach says that the Pirates and Orioles have shown the most interest. I'm guessing the Pirates are more interested in him for the second round--draft expert Andy Seiler has Bryant going in the supplemental round. But who knows? Anyway, Seiler says Bryant has ridiculous raw power but is a "project." Here's some video.

I have heard...
him as high as a mid first round guy and as low as a 5th rounder. I think he is a 2nd round guy who we should take. He has more raw power than anyone in our system and the only person who is close is Wesley Freeman, but Bryant isn’t as raw. Alvarez also might have raw power close to his, but I think Bryant still has more. I don’t know about him sticking at third because he is really tall and will likely fill out his frame and may have to move to a corner outfield spot where he should be athletic enough to play at least average defense.
Pedro's
power ranks an 80 on the scouting scale, with 80 being the highest. No way this guy has more raw power than Pedro
Well, if we learned one thing last year, it’s that the Pirates won’t go by anyone else’s draftboard.
I would'nt put it past the Pirates....
They could take this guy with the #2 overall pick if they like him somewhat, and they feel he’ll sign quickly…I don’t think anyone had Sanchez going in the top 20 a month before the draft, but I could be wrong about that.
That does’nt mean that I’m saying I did’nt like the Pirates draft strategy to take Sanchez, and spend big bucks in the lower rounds…it sure seems to be paying off so far. I’d really like to see the Pirates take a high upside HS arm though with our 1st pick (Taillon, Cole, or Whitson).
As far as the video…it does look like he has a effortless smooth swing…

I doubt...
Sanchez would have made it past the Royals who were also very high on him. at this point last year though, most people didn’t have Sanchez going in the top 3 rounds.
Sanchez may or may not prove he was worth the 4th overall pick, but any team that had him as a 4th rounder or later needs to take a good look at its scouting staff.
I can't speak...
…about where Sanchez was ranked before the start of the 2009 season, but it’s not all that unusual for guys to move up or down 30+ spots over the course of their draft year. Particularly high-schoolers like Bryant.
He sounds like he’s worth watching, so I’m glad they’re doing their DD on him.

Watching the linked video (plus a couple of others)...
…I mostly like what I’m seeing here. He’s got the quick wrists and the good hip rotation. He’s got a frame that looks like it’s got some physical projection. He’s going up to the plate with an aggressive approach, but is being selective when deciding whether to swing or not. Not that it was all that hard – nobody seemed to want to throw him many strikes.
I only saw a tiny bit of defensive film of him. He looked athletic enough to play 3B, but was kind of loose and awkward technique-wise. Might improve with more reps, might need to play OF/1B.
