Kevin Hart a Mess in Spring Debut
Spring Training stats generally don't mean much of anything, but the Kevin Hart / Daniel McCutchen battle does bear watching as we head toward April. Today Hart faced seven batters and walked four of them, threw a wild pitch, and allowed two runs. Not so good. There's time for him to get things ironed out, but obviously today's performance makes it harder to believe that last year's problems are behind him.
The Pirates' bullpen, led by D.J. Carrasco, Brendan Donnelly, and Jack Taschner, racked up strikeouts and only allowed one over nine more innings. Ryan Church went 2-for-3 with a homer, Andrew McCutchen was 2-for-3 with a walk, and Jeff Clement doubled. The Pirates tied the Phillies, 3-3.

But not as much of a mess as
(((drumroll) some Nats pitcher named Sean Burnett, who, in 2/3 of an inning today, accumulated a 50+ ERA. I know its Spring Training and it doesn’t really matter, but could it happen to a nicer guy?
It doesn't matter...
He doesn’t play on a team that is the “laughing stock of the MLB” so I’m sure he’s probably proud of everything he accomplishes while he’s playing for a team that is SO much better than the Pirates.

Yep
He wasn’t really the “cornerstone” of that deal, so any production they get out of him is probably a bonus. (See what I did there?)
The glare of the spotlight is harsh, and the pressure that success breeds immense. We revere our heroes, but expect much. And criticism can come as easily as praise.
OT, bucs are on MLB Network's 30-30 today
5 p.m. and many times thereafter. If you already know this, there’s no reason to tell me.
Hart always seems to have control issues
walk way too many batters. I was surprised to hear they “crowned” him 5th starter so soon. Guess we’ll see how Daniel performs.

It wasn't really a crowning
Just a comment that he had the inside track…he clearly has more upside than TOMC so there’s nothing really wrong with that.
Its not as if they’re going to send him out there anyway if he does this all spring. Its pretty common with a rebuilt delivery to struggle immensely early on though so if we’ve done as much work with Hart as we’ve been implying I’m not surprised.

The word on the "crowning"
Could this just have been to fire D. Cutch up? I mean, people are thinking Ramon Vasquez was a lock to make the 25-man and there are rumors he might be traded before ST is over (or released). We’ll see if the lock is as safe as it sounded.

Where are you hearing this? The Texas rumour from MLBTR? That’s not gonna happen.
Free your ass and your mind will follow.

I would guess it would not happen
Because Vasquez was never seen as an adequate SS replacement in Texas when he was here. I doubt they would pick him up to be a backup SS.
