Bucs Dugout Fantasy League

Anyone who might be interested in participating in the Bucs Dugout fantasy league, please follow me after the jump.

Star-divide

Here's the deal. The draft is March 27 at 4:00 PM EST. Unfortunately, that's non-negotiable; it's just about impossible to find a time that will work for everyone, and trying to accommodate people who can't make it just creates more problems than it solves.

There will be 16 teams, the same as last year, although I'm making the rosters a little bit more traditional (21 players instead of 25) so that it's not impossible to maneuver if you have a player get hurt. That said, it's an unusually deep league. Also, we get rid of traditional categories like batting average and stolen bases and replace them with better ones like OBP and SLG. So if you're frustrated (as I typically am) in o ther leagues when you have to draft Kevin Gregg, this is the league for you, because here you only have to worry about players who are good at hitting and pitching. We're also playing head-to-head, which I find is a more effective format for keeping people interested the whole year.

Priority will be given to people who played in the league last year, but I'd imagine there will still be a bunch of spots available, so if you want one, please send me an email or leave a comment stating your interest.

I'm running the BD fantasy league at CBSSports.com this year because, well, they're paying me to. In fact, please consider this entire post an ad. Here's the legal language:

CBSSports.com is an SB Nation partner and paying sponsor of the SB Nation baseball communities.

This post is one of a series of sponsor endorsed posts related to the CBSSports.com Fantasy Baseball Commissioner League.

It honestly doesn't make me too comfortable to put an ad right here in the text of the site, but I hope you won't begrudge me the chance to make a little bit of money here. There will be several more posts about the league this March, and then one a month during the season.

CBSSports.com leagues usually cost money, but this one will be free. In addition, if you'd like to set up your own league, please use this link: you'll get half off the price, and I'll get a kickback too.

Here are some of the features of the product:

Customize entire league the way you want...rules, scores, teams + more

LIVE scoring & stats so you can follow along as your teams rack up points

Keeper league capability to carry on the tradition for many seasons to come

Expert analysis provides up-to-date information on all players & teams

Live chat/league messenger to trash talk with your competition

I would enjoy a Fantasy Baseball league with other Pirate fans, if there is space available.

As long as there is the ability to Auto-Draft, if necessary…I’m in again this year. I will be working midnight shifts that weekend…and I have to sleep sometime.

by Thunder on Mar 8, 2010 4:06 PM EST reply actions

I’m interested in playing, just as long as it isn’t head to head. (I’m awful at head-to-head leagues in all fantasy sports for some reason.)

by Kidspud on Mar 8, 2010 4:07 PM EST reply actions

Oh, sorry. I forgot to mention that it is head-to-head.

by Charlie on Mar 8, 2010 4:10 PM EST up reply actions

Sounds like fun.

But if you’re replacing batting average and stolen bases with OBP and SLG, then you can count me out.

by Schide on Mar 8, 2010 4:20 PM EST reply actions

I’m in if you’ll have me.

by thegreatchris on Mar 8, 2010 4:41 PM EST reply actions

Count me in - if there is a vacancy

I’d also like join if space is available. Love the use of OBP and SLG.

count me in...

If there is space available…I was’nt in on last years festivites…

by FusilliJerry88 on Mar 8, 2010 4:57 PM EST reply actions

I'd join if there's still an opening.

The league that I’ve been heavily involved in for the past five years just folded, so I’m looking for another league to provide a distraction from the tedium of my day-to-day.

by getwonkafied on Mar 8, 2010 5:14 PM EST reply actions

I’m interested, if you have any openings.

by Traco Bucco on Mar 8, 2010 5:24 PM EST reply actions

What specifically are the stat categories?

I made most of my life decisions at a Foghat concert... I stand by them.

by Chester J Lampwick on Mar 8, 2010 5:32 PM EST reply actions

For hitters: R, RBI, HR, OBP, SLG

For pitchers: W, K, WHIP, K-BB (kind of bizarre, but CBS offers that and not K/BB), ERA

by Charlie on Mar 8, 2010 7:00 PM EST up reply actions

Interesting, I’m surprised that you use wins and rbis but that’s still better than most leagues (including my own).

I’m currently trying to convince my league to stop using saves but people love it.

by Chester J Lampwick on Mar 9, 2010 5:00 PM EST up reply actions

Wins and RBIs obviously aren’t my favorite stats, but since they’re counting stats, they’re good protection against somebody drafting Albert Pujols and a ton of relievers and winning the league that way.

If spot open I am in

I would be in the league for sure if you have spots. just let me know.

I’m in again. One of these years, I’m going to beat azibuck.

Email headed your way, Pat.

I’m going to give last year’s owners a day or two to indicate interest before I deal with the rest of the spots.

by Charlie on Mar 8, 2010 7:02 PM EST up reply actions

I'm interested

if you have a open spot.

by Tim T on Mar 8, 2010 7:01 PM EST reply actions

Charlie, you earn any and every nickle you can get from running this place. I don’t begrudge you a single one of them!

by matskralc on Mar 8, 2010 7:48 PM EST reply actions

If there is room I would like to play....

The ball just got bigger and bigger and then BAM it hit me.

by .500 Please on Mar 8, 2010 11:37 PM EST reply actions

Im in again

was in it last year, would love to be in it again

by richmondpirate on Mar 9, 2010 3:04 AM EST reply actions

Interested

Looks like I’m late to the party, but on the off chance that there’s a spot available I’ll be up for it. I usually have a hard time being available for a live draft, but coincidentally that time works pretty much perfectly for me.

by Dignan on Mar 9, 2010 6:34 AM EST reply actions

I'm interested

League is probably full, but if by chance there’s an opening I’ll take it. I’m in several other CBS keeper leagues so I’m very familiar with their site, etc.

by Johnny Nez on Mar 9, 2010 7:59 AM EST reply actions

In if possible

I’m assuming the league is full, but if not I’d like to join.

by CoryR on Mar 9, 2010 9:19 AM EST reply actions

Not that there’s any more room, I think, but I’m in if you’ll have another.

by JustinM on Mar 9, 2010 10:20 AM EST reply actions

Ditto. I’m already in a keeper league with CBSSports so I’d much rather join another league there than find a Yahoo league or something.

by shayborg on Mar 9, 2010 11:26 AM EST up reply actions

Shayborg — sending an invite to the email you provided to SB Nation, which I’m telling you about because it doesn’t look like your regular address. If you have someplace you’d rather I sent it, please contact me.

by Charlie on Mar 9, 2010 6:31 PM EST up reply actions

I think there were four or five forwarding addresses involved, but I did get the invite. Thanks. :)
