The Pedro Watch
After two games, the prodigal son is hitting a tidy .333 with three home runs. That includes two jacks and five RBIs last night.
Ah, June 1 seems so far away.
Meanwhile, Tabata is hitting .300 with no homers.
At the other extreme, we have Vinnie Chulk, who's sporting a gaudy 216.0 ERA. But it's early yet. With a good outing tonight, maybe he can get that down into double-digit territory.

The 216.0 ERA
is wayyyyyy more impressive than Alvarez’s numbers. That takes real talent.

Yeah.
The higher the ERA, the better, right?

A 216 average is pretty impressive
Wait, we’re talking about bowling, right?
This is what you want. Pedro basically making you bring him up. Although you’d also prefer Andy LaRoche making it harder to not bring him up. But hey, “50% good” is about 50% more than the Pirates usually get
It only been four games, i think we can give andy a little more time to show how he can really hit. He has been playing stellar defense on the hot corner.

That's true.
Anyone wiling to guess which Pirate had this line after the first 15 games:
.119/.156/.190

Andy is awesome.
Just wanted to throw that out there.
YES!
Andy McCutchen is awesome

Haha...
Most definitely! Now if we can get the other Andy out of town…
Laroche will be fine.
He may never be a star (not saying he won’t) but I trult believe he will be an above average major leaguer.
I agree
with Slick1.
I hope we can get his glove to stick at 2B, because I think he’ll have a really good looking bat at 2B in a few years.

Where to get a #17 Alvarez
Anyone know where I can get an Alvarez jersey without paying a ton? I am 700 miles from Pittsburgh, but going to the first series in August, and got tickets near 3rd base……hoping Mario’s starts will be a distant memory. I should have my kids ready with #17.
hold off on that one...
Are we sure Alvarez will wear #17? Also, I think you would need to buy a customized jersey for Alvarez at the moment, so if you wait for a few months, the jersey will probably be cheaper.

You mean Luigi
and Pedro also has a 33% K rate, 82 error pace defensively, and he doesn’t have a hit besides those 3 home runs. Sorry to bring yall back down to Earth.
to be fair
he also has 2 BB to go with the 3 Ks. Let’s see how he does vs. a lefty (8 of his 9 ABs, including all 3 HRs, came against righties).
Luigi has a 31% K rate, 1 error, one hit all year and poses NO power threat whatsoever. And Luigi has played twice as many games as Pedro thus far. I know it’s early, but not a very strong argument for Andy…
yup
I’m happy with Duke, Maholm, and Ohlie….
Morton I’m on the fence about, there are times he just shows nasty filthy stuff, like the 1st 2 innings against the Dbacks, but then it will just fall apart in that one bad inning. If he can stay away from those bad innings, I think he’ll get better. Reminds me of another pitcher that used to have that problem….can’t remember who though.
Hopefully someone else can step it up as a Starting pitcher because I’ve heard that Daniel will be back up near end of month for the need of a 5th starter again? True/Untrue?
Thats the way it looked....
but now that Penn has seriously imploded, they could send him back to Indy because I seriously doubt he will be claimed by anyone.
The downside to that is that DCutch won’t get any work in, but Penn could continue to make the Pirates boxscore losses look silly.
It doesn't matter
Pedro’s minor league numbers. The fans want to see him this year, and while this year was pretty much tagged as the “see what you got” year for the Pirates, he will be up and playing sooner rather than later.
There’s no reason to keep him in the minors past June, unless the Pirates are somehow contending and everyone is playing well (Laroche, Clement)
Or unless you think like I do that striking out 35% of the time in AAA means you might struggle mightily in MLB.

And...
You’re also going off, what, 5 games? Come on now. I supposed Cedeno will hit .400 this year as well.
Chulk
wow, wonder what it is like to see that stat next to you r name..what did he do give up 8 runs in a 1/3.
by Rickfansince76 on Apr 12, 2010 11:52 AM EDT reply actions
yes,
but he did a bit better yesterday, giving up 1 ER in 1.2 innings. Now his ERA is down to 40.50…
