Around SBN: Why We're Skeptical Of LeBron James

Taschner

Seems to me that Bucs have a jewel in their midst that nobody pays much attention to---Jack Taschner.  The guy is an athlete (did you see that jump he made to snag that chopper agaist the Dodgers?).  He was a center fielder in his college days and he even looks like a hitter.  Plus, his overall record, injuries and all, is now 10-5.  Maybe we should make him a starter.  Lord knows we need one.  When will Brad Lincoln ever be ready for the Show?  Is seems like we've been waiting for him since Littlefield (ptuie!) was in short pants.  Taschner is a heck of a player.  Let's give him a shot.

Totally

Pure hitter, even worked a 4 pitch walk off the filthy kershaw…

Hey Jack, why you calling yourself Buck? :-)

It was actually a 6 pitch walk. Made Kershaw get that pitch count up even higher.

I’m warming up to Taschner. At first I was skeptical, but he seems like he has potential. Met him before the Earth Day Massacre in PNC Park, and he was a really cool guy, too.

Eh....

Just a journeyman reliever, nothing more.

Meek is the guy I believe people should be excited about.

Who isn’t excited about Meek? That wasn’t too much of a surprise, because we mostly all expected good things from him. Taschner certainly has been a surprise to this point.

We're the Pirates remember...

we are not allowed to get excited about positive things because it wouldn’t reinforce the argument that Nutting is cheap and will never have a winning org with him in charge.

He did change his arm slot this spring.

As such, it’s not out of the question that he’d reach a new (and higher) level of true talent.

Worth monitoring, anyway.

I agree. A seemingly new found penchant for the strikeout and improved command seems to have followed him from spring training into the regular season, but it’s not something to get too excited about at this point. We’ll see how it goes.

Wait’ll Taschner has two bad outings. Then it’ll be, “Nutting is too cheap to employ decent relievers!”

Why exactly are you here, Nutting Hostage?

They’re actually looking for you over at the PBC Blog.

Hey, an out is an out - unless you're Mario, in which case it's probably two outs. -UtesFan89

Just saying....

that sometimes there’s not too much to get excited about when it comes to the Bucs…and Taschner looks like a ball player to me. I’d like to see him get some props—-maybe it’s too early, but I like the way he throws the ball and he looks good at the plate.

He's exactly what you'd expect from a journeyman

He’ll do a serviceable job when called upon, but he’s not going to be a star. The Pirates organization has been so bad for so long that it tends to amplify players who are good enough to maintain the status quo. Taschner is doing a good job for us, but he’s not a long-term solution. If he was, he would have been a permanent fixture on another club a lot sooner, especially at his price.

Help us Mike LaValliere, you're our only hope!

That said

he’s awesome for us so far, and that’s all that matters. Also, Vlad is right, he might have corrected something in his throwing that might make him more consistent.

Help us Mike LaValliere, you're our only hope!
