Bucs Make First Move

The Pirates made the first of what will probably be five to seven roster moves over the next six weeks (really not the first with Pearce already up and a bevy of pitching moves).  This one really doesn't do much because it has Jack Taschner going on the DL with tightness in his left hamstring as Brendan Donnelly gets activated.

Who knows if Taschner is hurt, but it gives Karstens and Burress a reprieve for a bit longer, and maybe someone else goes on the DL between now and then.  Lincoln, Walker, Tabata and Pedro still on hold.

UPDATE: I had forgotten, but it has been pointed out in other threads, that Karstens is out of options.  He cleared waivers during the offseason and was removed from the 40-man.  But, he obviously has been reinstated since, and as such would have to clear waivers to go to Indy.  Taschner's "injury" is clearly just buying time, I'm sure he's fine.  The Bucs get two more weeks to get Lincoln ready and at that point everyone knows a lot more about Burress (and Morton) and can make an even more informed decision.

Tonight's Lineup

Aki and Church both out of the lineup again tonight. That’s good, but the fact that the team didn’t DL Aki on Sunday is really starting to piss me off. Great opportunity to see Walker. Pinch-hitting Aki two nights ago was even dumber. Unless of course, they are getting ready to cut bait. Then all is forgiven.

Aki update from PBC Blog

DK says that Aki is getting better but still no full speed. JR says he would use a pinch-runner in the extraordinary chance that Aki got on base. He also says, “We really can’t go that route for much longer.”

Best news yet for Walker fans. They should DL Aki tomorrow. Please don’t whether they do or don’t pinch hit him tonight.

given how 'aggressively' NH uses the disabled list,

first with Veal last year and now with Taschner, it’s rather astounding that Aki hasn’t been DL’d yet so they could recall Walker.
