It has been speculated that the Pirates would send back a pitcher and call up an additional position player before Tuesday's game. It already looked like Brian Bass would be the odd man out in the pen and with him drawing mop up duty on Sunday, I think it's a safe bet he goes back. The real question is who gets called up. We do know who it WON'T be. It won't be Pedro Alvaraez, Jose Tabata or Brad Lincoln (who, of course, is a pitcher anyway). It comes down to 1B/OF Steve Pearce or super utility Neil Walker. It's interesting to note that Walker played 1B at Indy on Sunday. That could mean they wanted to see if he could handle the position and take over for Pearce at AAA. Or, that he could handle the job in Pittsburgh instead of promoting Pearce. I think Walker is going to get the call. I think he is more valuable off the bench than Pearce. I think Pearce continues to play everday at Indy as plan B in case Clement can't get it together. Then Clement and Pearce would swap spots in Pittsburgh and Indy. With Walker's ability play pretty much anywhere but SS and maybe CF, I can see him getting 3 starts a week in place of Andy, Aki, Milledge, Clement and maybe even Jones. He will steal time for Delwyn Young and possibly make him expendable. Thoughts?
