Pirates reacquire Van Every

Stay connected for news and updates

I'm a fan of Jonathan Van Every, and so I was please to hear that the Red Sox were willing to give him back to us for a 22 year old Low-A Cathcer who can't hit. Josue Peley will most likely wash out and dissappear in a few years, so I like this trade. On to Van Every. I have speculation that we did this deal for depth, not at the minor league level but at the major league level. I think this trade signals the end to Ryan Church's career as a Pittsburgh Pirates. Van Every, like Church can play all 3 OF positions, and is also younger (30<31). Church is just hitting worse and worse and worse that soon I am going to mistake him for Aki. Anyways, my point is that Van Every brings everything and anything that Church brings and so I see no reason to keep the more expensive, older, slower Church who we know is just using Pittsburgh as a catapult to get a better job next year (which likely won't happen if he keeps this up)
Do any of you think that this trade has any signifcance or is it just minor league depth?
