BTW: I am not starting a new thread beacuse I did not read http://www.bucsdugout.com/2010/5/7/1462445/brian-burres, but because of Karstens performace yesterday seems to up the ante a bit!
When the Pirate starters were giving up touchdowns a few weeks ago, who would have thought we are now having to choose between pitchers who are doing well? That is baseball. You are never as good as you last game or as bad.
When Ross Ohlendorf comes off the disabled list, the Bucs have indicated he comes back into the rotation. Duke, Maholm, and Morton are fixed as starters (for now), so that leaves one slot left. When we started the season, it was Daniel McCutchen and Kevin Hart that battled for the 5th spot, now it looks like Brian Burres and Jeff Karstens are the candidates.
IMHO, it will be Burres-because he is lefthanded. I think the Bucs are looking toward what to do when Lincoln is ready, who moves out of the rotation? With Burres they can think about trading Duke or Maholm for some talent and still have 2 lefties in the rotation. They also have Donnie Veal down on the farm as another lefty.
Another decision looms when Brendan Donnelly comes off the DL. That one is ieasier because I think Brian Bass goes down at that time.
Who would have thought a while back that right now the Bucs have too many guys pitching well to decide among!
