After reading Ron Cook's arrogant dismissal of Neil Huntington and the Pirates Front Office I began to wonder when the Pirates will better the McClatchy Line (a .500 win/loss percentage). I'd say that, at best, we can realistically expect a winning season around 2014, give or take a year. Barring injuries, however, and given the development of the players now in the pipeline and those will soon become Pirates prospects, I believe the Pirates will accomplish more than mere mediocrity, as appealing as mediocrity appears to be to dolts like Cook. The organization should contend for a while, much as the Brewers did in the recent past. It may even win a World Series or two just like the Marlins. Hopefully, the Pirates will achieve enough to make the suffering of the past two decades an obscure memory - as the Pens did after acquiring premium players like Orpik, Fluery, Crosby, Malkin and Staal.
An informal poll is one way to chime in.
