First off, this isn't really intended as a "Fire Russell" post, even though I am a proponent of this happening at some point. It seems to me, however, that John Russell was not a bad manager by any stretch of the imagination until this year. The ridiculous concerns over his "fire" have always been there, but I have not and still do not care about this - I'd rather have a stoic manager than a purple-faced, screaming Lou Piniella or Larry Bowa. However, it seems that Russell's game management has fallen off a cliff this year - not that it was particularly good before, but it wasn't particularly bad either, at least not that I could tell. So, I guess my question is this: when exactly did Russell start repeatedly making bad lineup and in-game decisions, and more importantly, why?
