New PG USA mock draft
They have us down for Taillon, and like him best among the non-Harper players, but seem to expect us to pick Machado in the real draft.
Some other interesting stuff in there as well, about late-rising picks. Give it a look.

Andy Seiler's latest...
…has us taking Machado (Link), and he seems to think that we’re focusing in on Manny.
Jonathan Mayo...
…also has us taking Machado (Link), though he feels that Taillon is a legitimate possibility as well.
This is at least a little surprising to me…
A few weeks ago, I saw a tweet from Frankie Piliere that said the Pirates didn’t seem to be keen on Taillon—at least not as keen as others are. I wonder if anything on the Pomeranz front has changed in the past week or so…

Have you read any informed sources that say that the Nationals might pass on Bryce Harper?
Thanks for the link. This mock draft is an interesting read.
Goldstein makes Machado sound like a price tag pick, despite being a Boras client. Meh. I think he’s the BPA.

Quick question
Do pitchers or position players rise faster in the minors?
I know each case would be specific to itself, but as a rule, who rises quicker?
If you check the avg. ages in each of the class A leagues (I didn’t look at AAA or AA because there are lots of vets at those levels), pitchers in every league average a couple months older. There could be various reasons for that and injuries almost certainly play a role. This probably shows there isn’t much difference.
this is an interesting mock draft but most of the picks dont have true valid points, for example the Rangers are going to overdraft someone at 15 because its not a protected pick.
Actually, I think that's a shrewd point.
Teams focus more on signability for unprotected picks, because if they don’t, the player in question totally has them over a barrel.
Not Sure...
The Pirates may not agree with me, but I would personally take Taillon over Machado for any number of different reasons.
Might be misinterpreting, but it sounds like the author’s saying that he’d personally take Taillon second overall given the chance, but that the listing of Taillon 2nd on the mock draft isn’t necessarily reflective of the Pirates’ actual discussions or even that he necessarily believes that Taillon will factually end up being the pick.

Iiiinteresting.
Wonder what made them shift, if the report is accurate.
Maybe they got a better price tag than they expected from Taillon? Or a worse one from Machado?
I just posted this in a fanpost below...
Langosh reported that NH had a four meeting with Taillon just last week. I don’t think that happens this late if he isn’t serious about drafting him.
We’re really getting scared away by price tags in the draft at this point? Paying for the draft’s BPA is worth the cost far more often than not.

Yeah, exactly.
If they like both guys about the same, but one costs $2M more than the other, then that’s pretty much a no-brainer.
Huntington meeting this week
I’m sure it has something to do with the fact that Huntington and Co. spent a decent amount of time with Taillon earlier this week.
How high will Jamo [Jameson Taillon] go? Possibly as high as No. 2 to the Pirates, who flew to Texas an expedition — led by general manager Neal Huntington — to meet with him for nearly four hours earlier this week.
Law could be reading into this, or he could have learned something specific about the conversation. Who knows, but there is likely a correlation.
Heh
The headline on this article from the mothership amuses me:
