One Less Taker for Doumit
Texas acquired Bengie Molina from SF for RP Chris Ray and PTBNL. They could have given up less to Pittsburgh, I think. Doumit's defense is no where near to being in the same league as Molina's; however Molina's bat doesn't give Texas any upgrade over Treanor or Max Ramirez.
In my mind, this is a good barometer of how little the contenders think of Doumit right now.

If that's the standard . . .
I’d much rather Doumit stay in PGH.
this just changed
Michael Main is the PTBNL.
Holy shit! Michael freaking Main! I cannot believe it. I need to rant! We should have given Doumit and paid twice his salary. Michael Main. Dear God! When did Sabean start being this smart? Shoot!
maybe
but i don’t think everyone is willing to give up that level of prospects for Molina… although there’s something else I didnt think about which is Molina’s free agent status…
If we were about to trade Doumit for just an A-ball pitcher, I’d want one that was actually performing well.

I would say that Main is performing pretty well. The California League is a hitter’s paradise and he’s just 21 years old. Not sure I’d give up Doumit to get him, but he’s certainly worth 10 Bengie Molinas. Gotta give Sabes credit for making a good deal.
He’s not bad, but if we’re to trade Doumit then I’d want to spread out the risk a bit more with someone else in addition to Main.

Main is good
I probably wouldnt trade Doumit and pay his salary for Main, but I wouldn’t be terribly sad at that outcome… still, I d say Doumit is worth more.
Get Boston on the phone...
Varitek is joining Martinez on the DL.
I’m really ready for Doumit to move on. His attitude sucks and his defense is suckier. Marginally above average offensively when healthy, his defense negates any potential positives that can be gained from his offense.

I think "Marginally above average" . . .
is incorrect. I would suspect Doumit has been a decent bit better than the average catcher offensively for his career.
Scratch that idea...
Sox dealt with Houston to get Kevin Cash giving up AAA SS/2B Angel Sanchez. Not an upgrade for us much save for the fact that he manages to bat +.300 in AAA unlike our boy Diaz.
