Pirates Reacquire Brian Bixler For PTBNL
I don't imagine the Bucs will give anything up for him, or hopefully not, but this seems a strange move. We have Argenis Diaz at AAA, and Cedeno and Crosby at the ML level. So unless this is a precursor to a trade, which also seems strange, I don't know what the reasoning here is.
UPDATE by Charlie: I don't get this, either. Brian Friday, too, is on a rehab assignment and will be back with Indianapolis soon. Dejan Kovacevic writes that the trade is merely for "future considerations," which essentially means the Bucs get Bixler for free, but still... he's horrible, and I don't know why the Pirates would waste their time with this.

re:40 man
He was DFAed by Cleveland and sent outright to AAA. It’s basically like having him on a minor league deal. He may be a minor league free agent at season’s end.
Bixler ...
will just be an organization guy.
I’m sure he won’t be on the 40-man roster next year.
Moreover, I’m not sure he’s not better than Diaz. He’s really terrible.
But I do think he has more value than Diz.
As crappy as Bixler is...
…he’s at least capable of putting up a decent OPS at AAA. Which puts him way, way in front of Diaz.
I've been supporting this front office since they were hired...
but now I’m officially having second thoughts about NH and FC. They have been making some very weird and pointless trades. We gave up a decent prospect in Uvieldo for Dana Eveland, a guy that was cut by the Blue Jays and made a whopping TWO appearances with the Pirates before he was demoted. We acquire a guy the Padres had given up on in Gallagher. And now we get back Brian freakin’ Bixler?!? I just don’t understand these moves at all. It’s like we just wait for other teams to completely give up on these players and then we jump on the opportunity to get them. And for what? It’s puzzling to say the absolute least. I know these moves don’t mean whole lot if anything in the grand scheme of things, but still; what is the reasoning for these moves. They just seem to be classic moves that make the rest of the league laugh and say, “That’s why they’re the Pirates.”
Bix is just AAA filler...
NH said Starks wanted a right handed versatile IF in Indy and Bixler was available. He won’t see Pittsburgh. This deal isn’t one to analyze too much. I don’t mind the Gallagher deal either. He has tools and the Bucs didn’t give up anything to get him. The Eveland deal however sucked real bad. Can’t believe they gave up anything to get him.
Gallagher is a smart pickup.
He should make you more confident, not less.
I’ll grant that the Eveland-Uviedo trade was inexplicable, but maybe Huntington just had a microstroke or something.

This pickup has zero to do with the Pirates, and everything to do with Indy.
Deeeeeep breaths.
Free your ass and your mind will follow.

Don't disagree ...
but I do think he’s better than Diaz.
And it’s not even close.
