Pirates Sign Aleksey Lukashevich of Belarus
At 16 years old, Lukashevich is the first player from Belarus to sign with an MLB organization. Neal Huntington really likes going after these untapped baseball markets.

Counting Down: 3...2...1...
Until the lunatics over on Sideshow Bob’s blog at the P-G break the internet complaining about this signing and how NH has to be the dumbest GM ever. I mean, a kid from Belarus?!? Do they even know how to play baseball over there?
As for me, it will probably turn out to be completely inconsequential, but where’s the harm unless NH gave the kid the money he saved by not signing Miguel Sano?
Posted on his blog at 6 PM. Commenters having a great time with it already.
Pirates, Vikings, Hokies. I'm used to heartbreak. At least I have the Penguins....

Lukashevich
Is there any numbers on this kid? Hopefully he pans out in the future. Anyways congrats to Aleksey, this is an accomplishment for him either way.
Nobody calls Han Solo a bitch!
I looked...
…but surprisingly Belarusian amateur baseball doesn’t seem to have much of a web presence.
Gilbert Islands are played out, man.
North Sentinel Island’s the place to go for unspoiled talents these days.
At least this guy will know what the hell a pierogi is when he shows up here.
