Who was the "Player To Be Named Later"...
...that the Pirates received from the Jays in the Jose Bautista trade?
I know we have Alvarez now...and in the long run - that looks like its going to be a part of finally turning this team around - not to mention that Bautista never really flashed the power he's suddenly displayed this year, but why is that?
Why do guys that look like bit players and even outright bums in a Pirates uniform seem to go elsewhere and turn into All-Stars???
I'm getting kinda tired of seeing that...but then again, I'm a Pirates fan. I'm a glutten for punishment.
PS - Matt Capps just "won" the All Star game...first for the NL in more than a decade. I rest my case.

Robinzon Diaz
for Jose Bautista…
Bautista’s having a power surge that is unlikely to continue for too long… and not likely to be a key part of the Blue Jays’ next playoff push… his average still is only .237, and his SLG is dependent on the HR/FB of 18.8% and there should be doubts as to whether he can sustain it going forward…
A lot of people here thought Capps shouldn’t have been non-tendered, so maybe that was miscalculation on the Pirates part… still “winning” the ASG has little bearing on the argument…
was thinkin the same thing when I read that
very misleading

Yeah...
But he won a game. Epic fail by the Pirates.

Also, Capps BAA is .297......
In other words…..he is still getting hit like he always has.

I wouldn’t say “like he always has.” He was fantastic until last year, with WHIPs to that point of 1.25, 1.15, 1.01 and 0.97. It wasn’t really until last year that he started getting hit and finished the season with a 1.66 WHIP, and it’s a continuing trend this year as he has a 1.41 so far and the Nats are considering removing him from the closer role.

Not really lamenting that Capps is gone...
…just thinking it might have been nice to have garnered a prospect for him…maybe even someone with the lofty potential of Robinzon Diaz. LOL. Is he still playing in the minors for Detroit?
Oh, and yes, I was watching – I know Capps only pitched 1/3 of an inning – that’s why I said he “won” in parenthesis – but it is still worth noting that here was there – and he got into the game – and even on a technicality – he got the win. Meanwhile, the Pirates lone representative didn’t get in the game.

Charlie Manuel
was obviously still pissed about the four game series a few weeks ago.
kind of sucks for meek
But if McCutchen could have made the roster he’d have likely inserted in the game at some point.
Starting to think RP’s should be left out of the game or at least the # of RP’s reduced.

+1 on the RP comment
Non-closer RPs rarely get used, and even then it’s really only Rivera. Why turn to a reliever when you can turn to Roy Halladay instead? I was actually shocked to see Heath Bell, Matt Capps and Rafael Soriano all pitch.

Meanwhile, the All-Stars and fan favorites in a Pirates uniform go elsewhere and turn into bums (Nate McLouth, Jack Wilson, Freddy Sanchez, Nyjer Morgan, Xavier Nady, Jason Bay).
Who knew we’d be looking at Jose Bautista and Matt Capps as the biggest producers Huntington has gotten rid of?
Yeah, how exactly can you say Jason Bay went elsewhere and turned into a "bum"?
As the poster above pointed out, he was pretty good with Boston.
I thought we were just talking about this year. Bautista wasn’t good until just this season.

speaking of player to be named later
did you hear the announcers say brandon phillips was picked up by the reds for a player to be named later in 2006? Since than his is only one of four players to have 100 homers and stolen bases
