I couldn't make it, but the Bucs certainly put on a grerat show for the BD and Fireworks night sellout crowd. Every starter had a hit. In fact everyone but Cutch had two hits and Cutch got a walk so he reached base twice as well. The Bucs banged out six doubles and the bullpen did another exceptional job after Ohlie couldn't get out of the second even though he had been staked to a 3-0 lead.
A great night for Lastings Milledge who got another two out, 2-rbi hit and made two excellent plays defensively. In fact, the whole team looked good defensively as Cedeno, Walker and Alvarez all made really nice plays on ground balls which they had to range far to field.
And the feel good story of Erik Kratz couldn't have gone better as he went 2-5, scored a run and drove in one. The only negative of the whole night was they completely butchered the television coverage at the end by not showing the handshake between Kratz and Dotel at the end of the game. (They didn't show the handshake line either for that matter, showing clips of the crowd and fireworks instead. Bummer.) Kratz didn't have to do anything of note defensively but he certainly looked fine receiving the ball.
It's amazing how dramatically different this game was from the game Friday night which I parodied here. It's great that the Pirates continue to play well in front of big crowds. Hopefully they can continue playing good baseball for the rest of this ten game homestand. Nights like tonight are what keeps the hope alive.
