Tiger's minor league system - Potential trade
So I was reading about the Tiger's needs here and my thoughts turned to Doumit and Andy. Doumit would give them some production behind the plate, in addtion to having the option of them DH'ing him, especially if they brought in a better defensive option down the road.
Andy would certainly have the glove to fill in for Inge and an average bat. He would fill the super utitlity role for them, especially if they have him start taking grounders as an emergency shortstop. I know Neal will always have a soft spot for him, but clearly Pedro and NW are the 3b and 2B of the future in Pittsburgh. Seemed like a nice oppotunity to move them both. Just a thought, I'm not suggesting that we would get anything incredible. His value will only drop as he plays less.
Does anyone know about the Tigers system or who they might be willing to move? I know their bullpen is depleted since losing Zumaya again so even a Doumit - Andy - Carrasco/ dotel package crossed my mind as our best chance to get something of value if we could fill all of a teams needs in one trade. Neal is done trading guys valuable to us for the sake of building the minor league system and is relauctant to trade anything he sees as part of the future. None of these guys fit that mold or is bringing in a real haul alone, but possibly as a package a la the Nady-Marte Deal?
Thoughts?

Andy would be competing with Scott Sizemore
Sizemore is a top prospect for detroit, who failed to seal the starting 2B earlier in the year but has hit his way back into favor with Detroit since.
They might take Andy, but I don’t they’d get any real prospects in return.

Rayburn would be about the best positional player we could hope to get
A former Detroit Prospect, Ryan Rayburn now plays all positions, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, OF. He’s 29 with a career line of .259/.321/.439
Not great, but he still has value for his utility.
Having said that I’d rather keep a younger Andy to see if he could fill a similar role for the Pirates.

If we were to see a deal with Detroit...
…I’d actually expect bullpen more than a position player. They have just about the shakiest relievers of any contender.
The confusingly-named...
…Giovanni Soto is also kind of interesting. Rail-thin lefty. Good change and breaking ball, good polish and pitchability, iffy FB velocity but maybe some physical projection remaining.
Also like Ryan Stieby
He’d be nother 25 yo 1B in AAA, but with his A+/AA track record, he’d be a great get.
Having said that I think Detroit may still think he’s worth more than just his AAA letdown numbers (.245 9HR 41RBI). Just the same I’ve seen him play in Indy against the Indians, and he’s really a dangerous hitter. Real awesome power.
He was Detroit Minor League POY in 2008.

Also it looks like the Reds and Mets have inquired about Dotel/Carrasco et al

And both their farms look much better than the Tigers. I’d love to snag some of the Reds pitching/offensive depth.

If the Tigers wanted anything from us, they’d want Maholm.
Verlander, Bonderman, Porcello, Gallaraga, and Scherzer are very unreliable as a whole. Maholm would instantly be their second best starter, and I think the Bucs would have some leverage in such a deal.
replace best with most reliable/consistent
and this post is more accurate. Like Dom says, Scherzer’s A game dominates Maholm’s
Yes
and Yes Yes Yes
to everyone. Yes and I’d throw in a few B prospects as well.
But sadly, yes Vlad is right. The tigers won’t do it.

Doumit on the DL? Son of a bitch!
Guess we’re stuck with him for another year
