I've never once, formally or otherwise, hear the Pirates rule out a trade for prospects. What they've said, and Huntington repeated to me just a couple days ago, is that they're no longer in the prospect-accumulation mode. That's Pirates-speak that means, essentially, they're past the stage of their plan where they feel an urgency to move a veteran for a volume of prospects, as they did with Jason Bay, Xavier Nady and Nate McLouth. They could be a lot clearer when they say some of these things, but I know that's what they mean.

I spotlighted this for two reasons:
First, I thought it was worthwhile noting that the franchise isn’t necessarily prima facie opposed to a veteran(s)-for-prospect(s) deal as we approach the deadline. Given the ambiguity of the quote in question, you can be sure that some fans will react with outrage if such a deal does happen, and attempt to portray it as some kind of breach of faith. Second, it’s interesting to note that Dejan sometimes has trouble decoding the front office’s cryptic statements on goals and policy, just like we do.
That's deliberate, right?
There’s no veteran that the club needs to move, but someone might be traded if the right deal comes along. No executive wants to rule things out that might make sense.
Viva Clemente!

WTF does the add for NCAA Football 11 mean by “The Clipper sounds for every win”? It’s apparently some sort of alleged Pitt tradition?
I’ve never been to a Pitt football game, but I’ve been here (gulp) 20 years; I feel like I would have heard of this before.
that's fine by me
The cupboard for tradin away the core is bare. It’s not necessary to trade away Maholm but there’s work to be done to make this a fundmentally-sound baseball team. San Diego won 63 games 2 yrs ago and look at them now.
We have a solid foundation in Pedro, Cutch, Tabata now we need a RH power bat and a solid rotation to solidfy it. I hope Neal and the gang are finally able to prove these Yinzers wrong and win them over.

Gateway Clipper, the riverboat, honks after every win. Also, as a former Pitt Band member, I hope pregame is perfect.

good one nathan
psu is gonna be good this year, so i cant say too much on that front, but well be just as good. baldwin and lewis are gonna be unstoppable no matter who is takin the snaps.
and ill give you guys that its pretty cool you get 100xxx people per game, but ill take 45xxx per for sure. that isnt bad at all
I dunno man, I am a PSU graduate (2005)...
who grew up in PIttsburgh, so I follow both, though I am partial to Penn St. But I think Pitt has the better team this year considering Penn St is relying on unproven QB’s, and graduated a lot of talent on defense. Too bad Pitt doesnt have an on campus stadium, because they really do deserve to play in front of a sold out crowd.
We do. Getting students to the game is easy.
