Walker is great...
…because he is a Pittsburgh guy, even if he were traded from the team tomorrow, it’d be a cool jersey to have. Some of the best jerseys are completely random. I wouldn’t trade my Rob Scuderi pens jersey for anyone, even though he doesn’t play for the team anymore.
Think of how cool a Rob Mackowiak jersey would be now, or how funny (in an ironic way) a Randall Simon jersey would be now. Or a Ryan Vogelsong, the perfect summation of Pirates pitching over the last 10 years.
Funny you should mention Vogelsong
I have a 2001 Vogelsong home vest gamer, with the Stargell star on it. Also have Ian Moran and Ron Francis gamers, as well as Freddy Sanchez and Matt Capps gamers from last year. Glad I kept these.

Well if you
wanna talk about safe from trades, Neil won’t be traded if he continues to play like this. If this continues is another matter entirely and while his numbers have been great, a slight regression in his game in a few different areas (defense included) and he could wind up out of a starting job.
Cutch is the way to go for ultimate “security” although you could always go Clemente. Not to sound crass, but you can’t trade the jeresey of a retired or a dead player.. plus he’s arguably the greatest Pirate ever (Honus Wagner making an argument possible IMO).

Yeah.
I already have a McCutchen jersey. Like you said, it’s a pretty safe jersey for now. I’m also tempted to get an Alvarez jersey.

Manny Mota
Manny’s jersey would be my pick (after Maz, Clemente, and Stargell). Best pinch hitter ever!
thanks
thanks for thE help thus far! I really appreciate it.
You and I must have differing opinions on the purpose of a jersey
For me, I always try to get as old school as possible. I usually pick up cheap ones (comparatively) at Piratefest every year.
I got a signed/game worn McLouth there for $150 the year before he broke out, then the next year I dropped $125, $75 for a Ronald McDonald Jeff Andrews and $50 for a McClendon spring training jersey. Didn’t see anything that really tickled my fancy this year, but if you really want an authentic jersey, I’d highly recommend not bothering with MLB.com or the Pirates’ overpriced crap and just waiting till the winter to find some real gems at Piratefest.

This whole discussion is why I scored my Pedro Alvarez jersey a week after he came up. By the way I am glad to see the number 18 is represented well. I was a big Van Slyke and
Kendal fan.

My next jersey will
have 00 on the back. My only indecision revolves around whether I want the nameplate to read “ANY NAME” or “YOUR NAME.”

I vote for
“YOUR NAME.”
Reminds me of one of the best tattoos I’ve ever seen – at a Grateful Dead concert in Las Vegas, a fellow came walking up the aisle, shirtless. As he got closer, I saw, roughly just below his sternum, in outlined stencil lettering about 2" high:

That is now
the best tattoo that I’ve ever heard of. It’s the sort of thing I wish I had thought of.

Considering that it was on his head,
I would be inclined to think he means it.

I like "YOUR NAME" as well
dammit why can’t I be that clever??
It hit me in the face
while wondering if there would ever again be a non-tradeable Buc — at least one that we like.
