Minor League Open Thread, 07/29
Since we had a day game today, I thought some people might be interested in one of these today?
Indy up 3-0 in the 4th inning, with Jim Negrych driving in 2 and Moss 1
Rudy Owens goes for Altoona, and has a no hitter, 1BBer through 2 IP. Still scoreless.
Bradenton down 1-3 in the 3rd with Brian leach going for the Marauders. Those hitters sure have cooled off.
West Virginia up 2-0 in the 4th- Philip Irwin with 1 hit and 1 walk through 3 IP, with 5Ks... why did I think he was promoted to Bradenton?
The Spikes and Williamsport are no-hitting each other through 4 with Fuesser having walked and struck out 4 each.

Rudy Owens and Philip Irwin....
Dominating tonight. Both should be promoted pretty quickly…..
Owens – 4 IP, 6 Ks, 1 BB, 0 Hs
Irwin – 5 IP, 9 Ks, 1 BB, 0 Hs
Jarek Cunningham with a big night – 2/2, HR…
Jimmy Negrych 2/2, 2B/3B….
Some of you guys will come around to the Rudy-train pretty soon….just hope it isn’t full when you make the transition.

Rudy-Train
I’d be quite happy if more people hopped on that train.
But it did make me think of going up to see Strasburg’s debut at Altoona and deciding to go watch RO warm up instead of joining the cluster that was watching Stras throw his bullpen. It was just me and one other guy, who I turned to and said, “I think you and I are the only ass-clowns watching this guy right now.”
Really looking forward to him getting moved up…
Who? Rudy Owens? Who?
Great detective work finding this Owens guy. Without your hard work, most of us posters on this board would not even know that he existed.
Everything that guy just said is bullshit . . .thank you
I really like Cunningham
he has steadily improved his plate approach this year and has had a nice/decent year coming back from the knee surgery. I will be really anxious to see how he does next year at Bradenton.
Here’s WTM’s profile for Irwin. Basically, he was a 21st-round selection in the 2009 draft, who figured to be an organizational guy. He’s certainly making a case to be considered a prospect, though – he’s put up great numbers at both of his minor league stops so far.
Hey, an out is an out - unless you're Mario, in which case it's probably two outs. -UtesFan89
Hard work always beats talent if talent doesn't work hard.
I find it amazing Bradenton scored 18 runs last night with only 5 extra base hits

@ Maxwell. C, I was the guy you turned around and said that to. Was so glad to see another diehard there with me. Small world for us Bucco faithful.
I am also looking forward to seeing Rudy bumped up to AAA and hope that it is in August. I have to admit that I had fallen into the trap of comparing him to Zach Duke. But seeing him pitch more and looking at his numbers I am a bit more optimistic about him.
While his strikeout rate per nine is down slightly from last year at 7.6 compared to 8.2 last season it is still significantly better than Duke’s when he was in AA. After making the jump from A+ to AA Duke saw his strikeout rate go from 9.8 to 6.3.
The fact that he misses more bats than Duke did is encouraging to me and confirms, for me anyway, that his stuff is a little bit better and we can expect more of him when he gets to Pittsburgh than another Zach Duke.
I'm just generally impressed with the use of the phrase
“ass-clown.” Needs to be more commonplace.
