The Sports Business Journal has a story up compiling all of the ratings for regional baseball broadcasts (check out the bottom for the full listings), and I thought the results are really interesting. While the main point of the article is how Boston fans are generally just bandwagoners (this is not earth-shattering), I was both surprised and proud with where Pittsburgh ended up:
15th overall, with a 5.8% bump from last season. (Obviously the households number is not huge, but that's all to do with market size.) After nearly two decades of losing, Bucco fans are still sticking around, which means we're either loyal (glass half full) or just a little bit delusional (glass half empty). It doesn't make the losing any easier and won't mean anything in the long run if this wave of talent can't boost the team to at least 82 wins, but I'll take it for a little shot in the arm around what looks to be a quiet trade deadline.
