Around SBN: Roy Nelson Willing to Pay for His Next Opponent's Drug Test

Chris Snyder

Via Ben Nicholson-Smith at MLBTradeRumors.com

Arizona Diamondbacks backup Catcher Chris Snyder is reportedly on his way to Pittsburgh pending the league's approval on the amount of money that Arizona is sending to the Pirates to help pay for Snyder's undeserving contract ($4.75 million this year, $5.75 million in 2011, $6.75 million club option for 2012 with a $750,000 buyout). Snyder is hitting .230 with 10 HR's. Nothing special about Snyder, the real hot topic is who are we sending out to the desert?

Apparently Charlie Morton was almost traded straight-up for Snyder earlier this season

I think it could be a washed-up AA or AAA guy like Brian Bixler, Brandon Jones, Brandon Moss, or Jean Machi.

It seems that Arizona is desperate to get rid of Snyder, and Pittsburgh seems desperate to no longer have Ryan Doumit as the catcher, maybe Doumit is being shipped to Arizona for Snyder and some prospects...(I highly doubt this scenario)

The most likely scenario is that the Pirates give Arizona a prospect or two from A ball that we'll never hear from again, Pittsburgh will get about $2 million from the D'Backs to help pay Snyder's contract and Doumit will be moved this off-season..

Bottom line though is that I hope we don't give anything that actually potentially could have value (Jeff Clement, Morton, Ronny Cedeno, Moss, Lastings Milledge, and any other players who fans have asked for their heads at times)

Yep

If Arizona is paying a significant portion of Snyder’s contract, they’re going to want actual prospect(s) in return. They got hosed in the Haren deal, but I don’t think they’re looking to send us Snyder and $6 million for Ryan Church, either.

As long as

its someone like Adcock or Mercer I won’t lose sleep. If we get into Cunningham, Quinton Miller territory I’ll be mildly upset and Owens or Marte I’ll be livid.

a starting lineup including:
McCutchen
Tabata
Walker
Jones
Alvarez
Snyder
Milledge
Cedeno
isn’t too bad. My hope is we get a good major league ready starting pitcher and a SS prospect for Maholm from the Dodgers. (McDonald and Gordon would be perfect.) With Gordon my lineup would like this:
Gordon
Tabata
McCutchen
Alvarez
Jones
Walker
Milledge
Snyder
Or a trade with San Diego for Simon Casto who has number 1 stuff and is about major league ready.
A bullpen with Hanrahan and Meek as the set up man and closer respectively is a good start.
A bench with Delwyn Young and Andy LaRoche is good.
(Huntington seems to know how to put a bench and bullpen together.)
The biggest issue is the starting rotation. I can see with/without trades:
McDonald/Castro
Ohlendorf(He’s a good number 2; bad luck has been a problem this year)
Duke(If he’s still here)
McCutchen(He is a good number 4)
Karstens(He deserves a chance)
With Morris, Owens, Morton(maybe he starts with the big club if the command and control are better) and Lincoln knocking on the door to get a chance to start maybe heading in to Spring Training next year. Possibly and hopefully Taillon and Allie are signed to immediately be the top pitching prospects.
The Snyder deal obviously is a better stop gap for Tony Sanchez’s arrival which is probably another seasn in a half or two seasons.

Pirates need to deal Maholm in my opinion

hes the hottest pitcher left right now and seems like teams are willing to at least give up one really good asset im saying James McDonald/Scott Elbert, Ivan De Jesus Jr. SS and Jerry Sands 1B or it could be McDonald/Ely and Elbert with De Jesus….I doubt we will get Dee Gordon but maybe we will that would be awesome but idk
