Hey, an out is an out - unless you're Mario, in which case it's probably two outs. -UtesFan89
Hard work always beats talent if talent doesn't work hard.
It's somewhat doubtful this one will finish without at least a few rain delays.
The forecast wasn’t looking good when I checked around 3 hours ago.
Considering both the Steeler game and the weather, I don’t see there being much of a crowd at the ballpark tonight.
As for here, we’ll see, I guess.

Seems like game is delay - can't wait to see those Roberto Clemente highlights
and We Are Fam-il-ee highlights for the millionth time…
Umenyiora takes down Mendy in the backfield.
All the DE’s are killing it today.

Twice the risk, four times the prize

“- C. Carter struck out swinging, J. Reyes scored advancing on throw, A. Pagan to third advancing on throw "
Ummm…what?

Let me guess...
since I can’t listen to the game. Snyder threw to first to get Carter…the ball got hung up in GIJ’s glove…and the throw back to the plate was late.
throw down to first,
Snyder must have dropped it; Reyes ran in from third, Snyder looked like he would argue, then realized the ball was still in play, threw to third, well you know the rest….

All right...
…but how can that run possibly be earned for McDonald? Ridiculous.

Well, yeah.
The question was more of a “how did they not charge somebody with an error there?” kind of question.

WTF
How many times does McCutchen have to make the mistake of missing the cutoff?
wg1 – K swinging on ball in dirt, Snyder looks Reyes back and throws to Jones, but Reyes takes off as soon as Snyder turns toward first to throw.
I don’t know why catchers don’t double clutch there to see if they can get the guy coming from third.
Eh.
Doumit probably would have managed to not get an out at all, there, FWIW.

Even if you pick the guy coming from third...
…any rundown results in the other runners moving up, putting you in the same situation. I take the out.

It's the 2nd inning
You get the out and let everything else sort itself out.

Except you are forgetting that a 1 run lead is almost insurmountable.

Just like letting Gallagher hit last night with 2 runners in scoring position in the 4th inning. Everything will sort itself out…except winning.
And what if the pinch hitter doesn't get on?
Then you bring someone in cold and risk injury AND leave the bullpen ravaged.
I’m not saying it was hands down the right mood, but there was sufficient logic behind it that I’m not about to get upset over it.

He's on third with two outs
You have a runner on third with two outs in either scenario,
Speed becomes irrelevant.

Well, if it works, it works…

Go McDonald?

So gamecast is saying it's 0-0, but gives JMac an earned run...
How is the young pitcher looking?

It is, indeed, 1-0.
McDonald looking pretty good nonetheless. Not crazy-good or anything, but very solid. The run was earned, but it was not on him.

Tied up!

But why the sacrifices?
I don’t want to pile on JR, but what’s the point of bunting Cutch over from second to third? He’s already in scoring position, he’s going to score on nearly anything. I don’t get it.
Well, I guess the idea is for Tabata to reach, but…
…yeah, still stupid.

No, it was a sacrifice
Playing for one run only on a flyout. JR going for minimum, playing to tie at best.
They were scored sacrifices.
Tabata wasn’t thinking “sacrifice”, though. He was thinking “bunt hit”, and the sacrifice was ultimately a by-product.

Then Tabata should get a talking to...
You don’t bunt for a hit with runners in scoring position…. twice.
Was there less than two outs?
If so, then a sac fly ties the game…

Tough to see J-Mac struggle, but he'll bounce back.
Brightest side: we’re about to be 3.5 games “up” on Baltimore.

Dude...
you do realize that “cocktail” refers to an alcoholic beverage, don’t you?
You also realize that nobody is going to respond to you in any other than a derogatory way if you keep on the path you’ve started, right?
If it ain’t about baseball, you will be ignored.

Umpires have let them play...
4 1/2 innings…so it’s gonna take a monsoon for the the bottom of the 5th to not be completed.
Crap.

Let me see if I have this right...
ignoring…of course…the fact that JMac has thrown 100 pitches.
2 men in scoring position…down 5 in the 4th…pitcher up…no pinch hitter.
no men on…down 4 in the 5th…pitcher up…pinch hitter.
It would seem
that you are correct.

Kind of random, but...
Cliff Lee got destroyed by the O’s today.
5.2 IP, 10 H, 8 ER, 1 BB, 4 K, 4(!) HR. Yeesh.

From Dejan: 8:56: Tabata, freed from the shackles of bunting, doubles down the line.
9:00: Rain really, really coming down.
9:04: This is getting stupid now.
9:05: Finally, the umpires call for the delay, right after Daniel McCutchen asked someone to bring him a towel from the dugout.
The system approaching is worse than this, so I have a feeling 5-1 will be your final. And your club will need to go 23-16 the rest of the way to avoid 100.
Good luck with that.
A Minor League Update of sorts...
Indianapolis down 9-6 in the 9th inning. Moss was 2-4 with a 2B and 2 RBIs, Ciriaco went 2-4, Bowker went 2-3, and Presley was 1-4 with a SB.
Altoona won 10-4. Negrych went 1-3 with a 2B, 2 BBs, and 2 RBIs, Mercer went 3-5 with 3 2Bs and an RBI, Harrison went 2-4 with a 2B and a RBI, and Hague was 2-5 with 2 2Bs and 4 RBIs. Owens’ line: W, 5 IP, 6 H, 2 ER, 0 BB, 6 K.
Bradenton down 5-2 in the 6th. Marte 1-3 with a CS. The team has made four errors so far in the game.
West Virginia is up 4-3 in the 9th. Lorin’s line: 4.2 IP, 7 H, 2 ER, 0 BB, 3 K. Cunningham 0-5.
State College lost 2-1. Curry went 2-4 with a solo HR. White went 1-3. Fuesser: 4 IP, 5 H, ER, 7 K. Cumpton: 2 innings, no baserunners, one K in his pro debut.
The GCL team won 6-5. Bishop went 2-3 with a 2B, a BB, and 2 RBIs.
