Won't see a "save" like this every day
of the Cubs was credited with a save tonight for pitching 1.1 innings, giving up two hits, two walks and three earned runs in a 5-4 win. Apparently he got the last out of the eighth with the potential tying or winning run on deck (one of the prerequisites for a save), then crapped the bed in the ninth but still finished the game (another prerequisite).
Somehow, I don't think the rule was intended to reward an outing this bad, but there you go.
I probably need some more words to get this to go up, so here they are: words words words words words ...

Yet another reason...
why the save is an overrated statistic.
Pirates, Vikings, Hokies. I'm used to heartbreak. At least I have the Penguins....

Meek's save tonight wasn't pretty either
I was having Mike Williams flashbacks
pujols was the only one who hit the ball hard that whole inning
and even then it was a make-able play for Pedro. I’m not worried about Evan.
Yeah, a couple of dribblers and a botched double play ball. Can’t pin that on bad pitching.

No no
I’m not blaming Evan. I agree with you and Mark 100%. I’m just saying that save it wasn’t easy to watch.
Right
A true Mike Williams flashback would have featured a double off the wall followed by two walks. I was only marginally worried during the inning, since he was just getting blooped and dribbled to death.
"blooped and dribbled"
Man, I LOVE it when Mrs. ’Daddy does that to me.
Me, too.

Tell you what
I was listening on the radio, so I had o take their word that he wasn’t being hit hard, but 18 years have taught me that that’s nothing but the prelude to a hard damned hit.
[I wanted to insert an image here of Tug McGraw patting his glove over his heart after a fly ball to the wall, but I can’t find it, dammit]
