Bucs Claim Chris Resop Off Waivers
Cool, free pitcher. Resop had awesome stats as a starter so far this year at Class AAA Gwinnett. He's coming off a long DL stay with a strained left oblique (which may or may not have been a ghost injury, since it corresponded pretty precisely with an out clause Resop had in his contract), but before that, there were rumors that the Braves were considering getting rid of him, and fans of a bunch of teams wanted him. He has good velocity and he does a decent job keeping the ball on the ground. And oh yeah - he struck out more than a batter an inning at Class AAA as a starter. He's no sure thing, but this move is about as good as free talent acquisitions get.

Ledezma also dominated at AAA, just like this dude
So don’t get your hopes up.
But at least we’ve got a great AAA Team!
The problem is we also have a great AAA team in the National League.
Ledezma has pitched about 4 innings in the Majors so far this year.
I think it’s a bit early to give up on him entirely.

i really thinks he deserves a chance to start
Since his stats are as an AAA starter and move hastens to the pen

Steven Jackson has to be the guy.....
I’ve never understood why he gets numerous chances. He isn’t and hasn’t been even average, but rather awful.

losing meek and hanrahan
didnt cause their old teams any heartburn, and Tampa is a smart team, and Washington likely is too, although the jury is still out on that… in any case, they arent stupid
What is your point?
Keep everyone so no one turns out to be great later on? We can’t, so there has to be choices.

my point
is that it’s worth evaluating carefully, because some guys have more potential than others, even though at this point, over a fairly large sample size of games, the results may not be there.
Pirates' mantra
“Give us your unwanted players…”
Steve Z
Pirates are imposters
Present Pirate team on the majority of days play like they are impersonating real major leaquers. First pitch to Malhom in last nights game, late innings, no outs , he swings at first pitch and grounds out,. Why not bunt or watch a pitch or 2??? Manager says" we have seen some tough pitchers VS us!! Da , so has rest of MLB.
in a followup move
apparently Chan Ho Park is now a Pirate. So that’s it for another relief pitcher… Jackson got sent down for Resop
He was a Pirate before
He was a worthless pitcher and was released. Maybe he has been taking some miracle potion, or is dating a Pirate front office person!
you wouldn't happen to be that tool on the Yahoo boards?
The two of you have a lot in common.

Apparently
NH knows how to go about putting together a bullpen. Why pay for high price guys on the FA market when you can just add free ones at your leisure all season long!
The very point people keep making
Middle relievers are a dime a dozen (closers are a dollar). Look at past Pirate rosters (or any rosters for that matter) and see how often the names flip from year to year. They are born to move from team to team.
Jackson DFA’d per Dejan…Pearce to 60 day DL…to open up 40 man spots for Park and Resop. One more 25 man move coming tomorrow (the Jackson move takes care of one)…probably Thomas (my guess, not Dejan’s). Then another 25 man move whenever they activate Doumit (which is supposedly Friday). Considering what Clement has done this week…I’m thinking that the most likely move is Kratz.
looks like a good match
For the AAA team at the least. May even get a chance to work out his ML issues? Who knows. Like you said, “about as good as free talent acquisitions get.”

He’s out of options though and so it’s succeed in Pittsburgh or he’ll be back on waivers. In terms of next year, it might be a blessing in disguise if Duke or Maholm went out with a non-serious injury to open up a couple of rotation spots for Resop, Morton, McCutchen, and Lincoln (I want to see more of Karstens and Ohlendorf needs innings to make up for being out for so long earlier this season, and of course I want to see McDonald start). It might be painful for us fans to watch, but I wish each of these guys could get 3-5 starts for evaluation purposes.
Glad to see they pulled the trigger on Resop.
He’s still a pre-arb player, right? So, if we decide to keep him, we have him relatively cheap in arbitration for a few years.
Hey, an out is an out - unless you're Mario, in which case it's probably two outs. -UtesFan89
