Is Nyjer still pissed at us for trading him?

Because this guy is totally on the edge right now. It’s not going to take much to set him off, especially if he’s still harboring a grudge against our organization.

I wonder what it would take for JR to notice.

Livan must think he’s got Eric Gregg behind the plate again.

by shayborg on Sep 3, 2010 7:30 PM EDT reply actions

I was just thinking that. At least Gregg didn’t have as much time to see Livan’s 81 mph fastball.

by biggyv on Sep 3, 2010 7:33 PM EDT up reply actions

Holy crap, you think that was a fastball? I assumed it was some sort of slider because it was so slow.

by shayborg on Sep 3, 2010 7:35 PM EDT up reply actions

According to PitchFX

He averaged 83.9 mph on his FB in his last start.

by biggyv on Sep 3, 2010 7:38 PM EDT up reply actions

Jeez, Duke is terrible. Espinosa hits his first major league home run.

by shayborg on Sep 3, 2010 7:38 PM EDT reply actions

He did hit 22 HRs in the minors this year, so I guess he has some power.

by biggyv on Sep 3, 2010 7:40 PM EDT reply actions

Nice work, Doumit. Jesus.

by shayborg on Sep 3, 2010 7:47 PM EDT reply actions

That is a passed ball.

Scoring from a leadoff double? What have they done with the Pirates?

by shayborg on Sep 3, 2010 7:53 PM EDT reply actions

Just wanted to post

So I can be part of what appears to a shot at a record for fewest number of posts for one game. lol

Nice to see Bowker playing.

Saw a note earlier today that the Nats think Espinosa can be their 2B of the future.

Hey,

I picked Bowker as my “Clemente” on WHYGAVS.

And GFJ as the “Cangelosi.”

Bowker better get on the fvcking stick, now…

But seriously – how has he looked?

by cocktailsfor2 on Sep 3, 2010 8:10 PM EDT up reply actions

One popout to left, one decent running catch. Neither good nor bad.

by shayborg on Sep 3, 2010 8:10 PM EDT up reply actions

Walker and Jones look disgusted with some of these strike calls.

by shayborg on Sep 3, 2010 7:58 PM EDT reply actions

Whis is it

every other month Ronny Cedeno looks like a major league SS? His month by month averages this year: .208/.295/.121/.329/.243/.750 (OK, it’s only 4 at bats…but ya get my point).

by Brakeman8 on Sep 3, 2010 8:00 PM EDT reply actions

I’ll take that inconsistent production over Jack Wilson this year. Even when Cedeno’s hitting poorly, at least he’s in the lineup and solid defensively.

by shayborg on Sep 3, 2010 8:04 PM EDT up reply actions

Nice to see some offense. The Cavalry is doing its job again. Can you imagine if Walker and Tabata hadn’t performed the way they have this season?

by biggyv on Sep 3, 2010 8:03 PM EDT reply actions

Can we pull Duke?

before he implodes and gives the lead back?

by Brakeman8 on Sep 3, 2010 8:04 PM EDT reply actions

I can’t believe Livan thought he was going to get a call on that pitch a foot outside.

by shayborg on Sep 3, 2010 8:05 PM EDT reply actions

Jayson Stark had a Nyjer Morgan mention today. He mentioned that in the last 10 years…other than Nyjer the other night…there has been ONE stolen base by a player on a team that was down by 11 or more runs…and that one was at Coors Field.

So I guess it IS an unwritten understanding that you don’t steal when a game is that lopsided.

by Thunder on Sep 3, 2010 8:20 PM EDT reply actions

I hafta disagree...

Look it ain’t particularly cool, either. But it was only the 4th inning..

That being said, it’s also been said (on the NjyMo thread, I believe), that he was trying to do some damage with his slides (insert NyjMo overslide joke here)…

Free your ass and your mind will follow.

Evidently...

Nyjer Morgan

by Thunder on Sep 3, 2010 8:43 PM EDT up reply actions

I don't think it's an understanding

I think it’s just not smart baseball to try to steal down that far more than any unwritten rule.

by biggyv on Sep 3, 2010 8:30 PM EDT up reply actions

I don't get this logic...

at least in as far as it goes for taking second to get into scoring position. If your down early, you need to make the most of chances to score.

Taking third serves little purpose though.

by BarryJT on Sep 3, 2010 8:40 PM EDT up reply actions

The logic is that stolen bases are valuable only because they move you up a base so you can score on singles. If you’re down by that many runs, the few outs you have left to make up that many runs are more valuable than the extra base you might take, especially because there is a risk of being caught.

by shayborg on Sep 3, 2010 8:44 PM EDT up reply actions

Particularly when you get caught as often as Nyjer does.

by biggyv on Sep 3, 2010 8:48 PM EDT up reply actions

That may be sound logic from the Nats’ perspective, but why should it have bunched up the Marlins’ panties?

Let's visit the comments from the Pirates Facebook page

“mccutchen is still really good but Shayne i might take morgan over mccutchen”

“I agree we need to get Morgan back. He was never suspended in pittsburgh and is a better fit than Millage, who is crap. If the pirates could put Mcutchen in center, Tabata in left and Morgan in right we would have 3 playes who could swipe 40 bases apeice.”

“kiel morgan is very fast while keeping him if he gets on its a easy run cuz he can steal 2nd and 3rd mccutchen is fast with power but he has 2 rise that batting avg up soo u could take morgan over mccutchen morgan is like juan pierre” (Just so we’re clear, he is comparing Morgan to Juan Pierre like that’s a GOOD thing.)

Found another article on the Morgan situation on sportsillustrated.com. This one was written by one of the co-authors of “The Baseball Codes”, which is a discussion on the unwritten rules in baseball, gleamed from plenty of writing on baseball, plus discussions with over 200 current and former MLB players.

The Code and Nyjer Morgan

Oh goodness.

Park pitching with a LEAD? Not sure I can handle this.

by biggyv on Sep 3, 2010 9:24 PM EDT reply actions

Interesting…a different strategy. He brings in Ledezma to face Morgan, pulls him, and brings in Heave Ho. With Dunn 2 batters away. I guess they will bring in Burres to face him.

by Thunder on Sep 3, 2010 9:25 PM EDT reply actions

Depends on whether Park gets Zimmerman here, I think.

If he gets him, I’d imagine Resop pitches the 8th.

Which he did. Wow, nice job by Park. Color me surprised.

by biggyv on Sep 3, 2010 9:27 PM EDT up reply actions

Or not.

This makes no sense. 3 run lead in the 8th, the goal is to keep runners from getting on base. particularly someone who walks as much as Dunn.

Indy down 13-6…although Moss has a 3 run HR.
Altoona down 9-3.
Bradenton down 5-1.
WV down 6-5 going to the 9th…but were down 6-1 earlier.
SC lost 3-0 and had all of 2 hits.

by Thunder on Sep 3, 2010 9:45 PM EDT reply actions

Just fucking ridiculous.

It seems like JR doesn’t even think about situations, and just goes with how managers have used relievers for the last 30 years. 3 run lead, nobody on, and you bring in a guy with 5 BB/9 IP against a walk machine, just because he’s a lefty.
