Another stupid save
The Mad Capper
did everything in his power to blow one for the Twins today:
1/3 inning, three hits, a walk and a run.
He got the out because a Rangers runner rounded third and went back to the base, but not before appearing to touch hands with his third base coach. The umpires ruled interference and called him out, ending the game.
For this stellar performance, Matt Capps got a save.

It sounds very paradoxical,
but I don’t care about save percentages for closers for that exact reasons. The best ways to judge them are K/BB numbers and FIP. Moneyball pretty much convinced me not to care about save numbers.
Of course saves are a joke and should be ignored. Anyone who can’t be trusted to record three outs without blowing a three-run lead shouldn’t be on a major league roster. I certainly won’t care when Hoffman eventually gets that “magical” 600th save. Rule should have been changed years ago to say reliever only gets a save if he enters the game to face the tying or go-ahead run.
