Nutting has no shame!

The Nutting Pirates should be ashamed running out that pitiful team, day after day, while selling tickets by using the great Maz and 1960 team as a marketing ploy.

The good to come of honoring Maz, was the fact that bozo Bob Nutting was boo'd.  What an embarassment!

I said before the year began that I knew this would be the worst PIrate team in my lifetime, but it could be the  worst Pirate team EVER.  It looks like that just may happen.

And lets remember folks.  What you see is what you'll get next year.  Cheap payroll, minor league talent, and cold   and stale buns.

Look out 2020!

In other news, the Padres have a ten game losing streak

and they have about the same payroll that we do and about 3 less offensive weapons. Also in historical accuracy, Nutting became majority owner in 2007, the same time that DL was fired and money was being invested in players that have upside

well, it is the 50 year

anniversary of that w.s. win, might as well celebrate it.

I think Maz’s homer was in 1961. Nutting rewrote the history books to make a fast buck. I’m sure he’ll realize the “mistake” next year and make a another late-season windfall.

Right
The Nutting Pirates should be ashamed running out that pitiful team, day after day, while selling tickets by using the great Maz and 1960 team as a marketing ploy.

The organization should only celebrate past players and events when the team is winning. It’s just crude to put up a Maz statue on the fiftieth anniversary of his historic home run. The Pirates should wait until the team is winning even if the wait carries them past Maz’s death. He’ll really appreciate the gesture after he’s dead. I’m sure that’s why he cried during the ceremony. He was overwhelmed by the tastelessness of the Pirates who would erect a statue in his honor when the team was not winning.

Bad Pirates. Bad.

THIS

The pirates should cease all activity and disband until they start winning. At that time they can start playing baseball again.

Nutting should sell the team, with a caveat that any owner who doesn’t win within 3 years has to strip the roster and sell the team if they then can’t win in 3 years. That way we’ll contend for sure.

Maz's home run

was in 1960; the first hit of that world series was by #9 also, Roger Maris of the Yankees and it was really nice that the last hit was by #9, Bill Mazeroski, of the Pirates. Just a another baseball odd happening.

but how do you come up with the $40 Million being saved on the MLB payroll. Also when you have a young team with a lot of years of team control left, the payroll tends to be low

by BFD1 on Sep 6, 2010 5:40 PM EDT up reply actions

no not every team does sign there picks

the Brewers didn’t sign there’s this year, many teams have sandwhich picks year after year where they don’t sign players. What team in a small market like Pittsburgh’s has a payroll of 80-90 mil. The Twins Mauer, Cuddyer, Orlando Hudson, Kubel, JJ Hardy, Brian Fuentes and Carl Pavano are the only guys on the active roster who make over $4 million this year.

I love this excuse

The reason Allie was passed on by so many teams is because he was a huge risk not to sign.

Turns out we ended up signing him.

Of course, let’s not let mitigating circumstances enter the conversation. Everything is black and white in a moron’s world.

All right, then.

If Nutting handed you forty million dollars, in addition to what is already being spent, exactly whom would you sign with that money to make the Pirates into a competitive team?

Still didn’t answer my question. You seem to have a problem doing that.

by ryebr3ad on Sep 6, 2010 5:18 PM EDT up reply actions

BFD...

When the Lemieux/ Burkle group took over the Pens they never used money out of their own pockets to fund the team. If you remember, for the first part of this decade the Penguins were terrible and never signed any big name free agents. Though by being so bad it netted them either the 1st or 2nd overall pick in the draft for 4 straight years. Those picks were Fleury, Malkin, Crosby, and Staal. After the lockout a salary cap was put in to their CBA, so they generally spend about the same as every other NHL team.

You have to realize that Nutting and every other owner in professional sports is first and foremost a businessman. This team doesn’t make the type of money that it takes to go and freely spend in free agency like the teams from NY or LA or Boston. It sucks, but it is what it is. What everyone is trying to explain is that while Nutting shouldn’t be up for owner of the year by any means, what he has done while being the majority owner to this point seems to be putting the team on the path to success. This success will not be now, or next year, or maybe even the year after, but it will come.

I don’t know if you write these posts with the intention of trolling or not, but until you understand that you can’t just say “Nutting is cheap, this team sucks” with no basis to your argument other than the Pirates record is bad, then these guys on here are just going to continue to rip you a new one.

I can say with absolute certainty that Mario would not
