Have the Pirates made a long term offer to McCutchen?
Via Jim Bowden on Twitter:
JimBowdenXMFOX A.McCutcheon told us he loves the city of PG. He is open to being with Pirates for years to come.; had no comment if offered long term deal
This is extremely speculative but I find the "no comment" part to be interesting. He has been very open about not giving up free agent years in the past and if he hadn't been approached by the front office I don't see any reason why he wouldn't have just said "no." The debate on whether or not now is a good time to extend McCutchen has been exhausted on Bucs Dugout so I won't rehash it but I will say that if he is extended, and the Bucs are able to get a couple of free agent years in the process, I will be very happy.

Signing him would do a lot of good
When is the last time this franchise really had a face? Sanchez was good for a few years, but he wasn’t the guy you think of when you think Pirates like Vlad when you thought Expos. I’m only 20, but I would go back past Wilson, Bay, Giles, and say the last time we really had a face/star type was Jason Kendall. The fans need someone they can feel comfortable buying the jersey of.
Might as well be Cutch, because not only is he better than Pedro, but between Pedros agent and his ties to New York, I’m surprised he got back on the plane with us when we left the Mets series.

cutch already IS the face of the franchise, and a well respected one at that
but whats the hurry? hes only got 1 1/2 yrs of service time… cueto and bruce both have been in the show longer. cant we be patient on this?
it would put a much brighter face on this offseason if he did/will.
Cue the jokes about it not being announced for another 9 months.
On the one hand, it's a nice thought.
On the other hand, Jim Bowden is pretty much always wrong about everything, which gives me pause.
You mean like
his spelling of McCutchen?
Free your ass and your mind will follow.

Any shot players/management reads this site?
Not that either side wouldn’t know, but do you think theoretically McCutchen could get the idea that an extension past his arbitration years would probably not be a great idea for him financially relative to what could be based on he or his agent reading this site? I realize there is almost no chance he does but still, theoretically?
If McCutchen decides...
to decline or accept a contract offer based on reading this site than the Bucs are in big trouble because he is a total Fn moron! In all seriousness, no I do not think he, or management, would base their decisions on reading this or any other site.
If management was reading this site
We’d have Lars F’n Anderson by now.

"The debate on whether or not now is a good time to extend McCutchen has been exhausted on Bucs Dugout so I won't rehash it...."
So then why start this thread?
The club will take up the McCutchen long-term deal talks at the appropriate time.
I bring it up...
because the tweet I copied makes it appear as if the front office has approached McCutchen about an extension already (which would make the appropriate time now if true). As I said it is extremely speculative but that’s the way I interpreted it. And all I meant with that statement you quoted was that I wasn’t going to list all over again the pros and cons of extending him now. If you’d like to discuss it again I’d be more than happy but you’ve made your position pretty clear when we’ve talked about it in the past. Obviously, the debate of good/bad idea aside, I felt that the tweet was newsworthy.
