Robbie Grossman Has Three Hits In Arizona Fall League Action
Robbie Grossman went 3-for-5 with a double in AFL action Thursday, bringing his AFL totals to .325/.372/.525 in 40 at-bats. Jarek Cunningham went 2-for-5 with a double and is now hitting .167/.276/.333.
Nate Baker pitched two scoreless innings in relief, and he has now pitched 4.1 innings and allowed one run, striking out four and walking one. Mike Colla pitched a scoreless inning and got the save, and he now has 4.1 innings in which he has allowed one earned run while striking out three and walking three.
We can't draw any conclusions from this stuff, obviously, but a good day is still a good day.

Now you're just
being in the bag for the team, trying to distract everyone from the horrendous decision not to exercise Maholm’s option…. ;-)
What does that mean?!
option
From the latin optio, to choose. The Pirates have apparently opted not to opt on that option.
CANT WAIT!!!
to see cole tomorrow. Im not going to expect to see him anything more than three innings but it will be awesome to see him against good minor league competition to see how he does. And I also think Grossman is showing he is a legit prospect and this past season was no fluke.
In all seriousness.....
For those that have seen him play….will Grossman stick in CF? Or is he likely to move to a corner spot?
Thanks Mr. E!
I wasn’t sure if that was because Chambers was playing CF or if it was because Grossman had been moved, but then I looked at his stats and saw that he played mostly in RF this year.
And Marte was in CF most of the year before.
Again, I wasn’t sure if that was because Chambers and Marte were better suited for CF or if because Grossman was no longer considered a CF.

From today’s Keith Law chat at ESPN.com:
Chris (Pgh)
Robbie Grossman…Intriguing statistics in High A this year. How has he looked in the AFL this year and what is his potential?

Looks good – great at bats, hard line drives, goes the other way really well. I do wish they’d promoted him to AA midyear, because full-year repeater stats are close to useless, but from a scouting POV he looks strong. I feel like Grossman actually is the player Brett Jackson is supposed to be.
There’s a pretty interesting array of opinions on him. Callis says he has not a single good tool. Law, on the other hand, said Jackson’s a non-star prospect yesterday, and if he says Grossman’s better, then that means he’s at least a solid prospect, in Law’s eyes.
I trust both evaluators, so I’m left feeling a bit ambivalent. I’ve never seen Grossman play, myself.
No jinx no jinx no jinx.

I've
seen him. Solid tools, better than what Callis says in my opinion, but he’s a “sum is greater than the parts” type of guy. I’d say he has average to above-average tools across the board, with maybe a plus tool or two if you like an aspect of his game. I’d say you could argue he has a plus glove at a corner spot and plus baserunning skills, but that’s if you like those tools. He’s a type of player that puts up better numbers than a scouting report would suggest, and he has a decent scouting report.
