Very interesting idea here - Jon Heyman just tweeted that the Blue Jays are open to moving David Cooper (17th overall pick in 08 draft) http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=cooper006dav because Cooper is blocked by Adam Lind for the foreseeable future.
This is interesting for a few reasons - 1. We obviously need a young first baseman and a 24 year old under team control would be perfect. 2. Cooper had a GREAT year last year OPS'd 974 at an appropriate age in AAA. 3. The Blue Jays GM said previously that the relief pitcher market was ridiculous and that they would look into other ways to improve their pen (as in trading!) 4. we have just what they want and need in Joel Hanrahan
It is my belief that the best trade the Pirates could make for a 1B would be Cooper or someone else like him that is blocked at 1B (Alonso) but I LIKE Cooper a lot more than Alonso and this would be an incredible deal. I really hope that we could get this done.
Am hoping for some more advanced scouting reports/opinions from the gods here at Bucsdugout
